During the past few weeks, consumers have been hit hard with rising gas prices, which have been raised an average of 65 cents per gallon in a five week period. As the gas prices go up, the people who are on fixed incomes, unemployed or underemployed find it a burden just to fill their vehicles with gasoline. National averages last week for unleaded gasoline was $3.77, which is 20 cents more than what it was one year ago. This is the largest month-by-month increase since June of 2009, though even that was not the biggest.
