Dorothy Hailey Whatley
Dorothy Hailey Whatley, 91, of Trout, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. She was born August 9, 1921 in Nebo to the union of her parents, Samuel Reuben and Eula Lea Methvin Hailey. Mrs. Whatley was employed as a Deputy Clerk of Court until her retirement from the LaSalle Parish Clerk of Court’s office. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, March 1, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Gary Norris and Willard Norris, and Bro. Mickey Cockerham officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest Whatley; five sisters, Ruby Jones, Ethel Collins, Mildred Hudnall, Martha Tingle and Daisy LaCroix; six brothers, Rev. Lawrence Hailey, Elmo Hailey, Sammy Hailey, Fred Hailey, Roy Hailey and Tab Hailey; one grandchild and one great grandchild. Survivors include her daughter, Shirley Whatley Norris of Jena; three sons, Jesse Reuben Whatley and Roger Ernest Whatley, both of Trout, and Bobby Glen Whatley of Temple, TX; ten grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bradley Norris, Glen Whatley, Vinson Whatley, Wayne Lanier, Steve Paul, and Steven Hailey. Grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.
