Virginia Cockerham Cassell, 96, of Ball, and a native of LaSalle Parish, peacefully passed from this life on Friday, September 20, 2013, at home with her loving family present. She was born August 27, 1917 in the Little Creek Community, to the union of her parents, George Roanzia and Lydia Irene Ganey Cockerham. Mrs. Cassell was a charter member of Paradise Baptist Church of Ball, and was a loving mother, grandmother, and sister, who will be deeply missed by those that knew and loved her. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Sept. 23, in the chapel of John Kramer and Son Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Wade Cummings officiating. Interment followed in the Chalk Hill Cemetery in the Little Creek Community under direction of John Kramer and Son Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Milton Leroy Cassell; her son, Milton E. “Mickey” Cassell; two sisters, Gussie Cassell and Bessie Jones; and four brothers, Ray Cockerham, Elton Cockerham, Troy Cockerham, and C. G. “Teet” Cockerham. Survivors include her son, Larry Cassell, Sr. and wife Linda of Alexandria; two daughters, Donna Wood and husband Michael of Gardner and Pamela Poole and husband Michael of Ball; one brother, Marvin Cockerham of the Mt. Sinai Community near Eden; 20 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 18 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Larry Cassell, Jr., Travis Cassell, Jason Beeson, Brian Beeson, Michael Wood, Evan Poole, Dexter Poole, and Dylan Delafosse. The remainder of her grandsons served as honorary pallbearers.
