Willie Burl Otwell, 90, of lower LaSalle Parish, passed from this life on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He was born September 9, 1923, in Phar, LA, to the union of his parents,  homas Hardy and Sarah Jane “Teet” Crooks Otwell. Burl was a veteran of the United States Army and a retired school bus driver for the LaSalle Parish School System. He was a farmer and served for many years as food stamp officer for the parish. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Craig James and Walter Lloyd officiating. Interment followed in the Taylor Chapel Cemetery of Summerville under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norma Nugent Otwell; sons, John Lee Otwell and Issac Sherman Otwell; daughter, Sherry Gail Whitehead; brothers, Thomas Wesley Otwell and Issac Hardy Otwell; and a sister, Lilly Elizabeth “Dimples” Hudnall. Survivors include six sons, Wesley Otwell of Belah, Louis Daniel Otwell of Fayetteville, NC, Willie Burl Otwell, Jr. of Belah, Richard Norman Otwell and Benjamin Hardy Otwell, both of Jonesville, and Alan Thomas Otwell of Amity, AR; two daughters, Janice Laverne Raulston of Pell City, AL, and Jane Elizabeth Wiggins of Jonesville; 26 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Grandsons served as pallbearers.
