Sharon Sue Stapleton Purvis, 64, of Jonesville and a native of LaSalle Parish, passed from this life on Friday, November 1, 2013 at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was born April 5, 1949 in Jena to the union of her parents, G. C. and Elaine Bignar Stapleton. Sue was a retired beautician. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, at the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Lester Johnson and Byron Gray officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery at Manifest under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nadine Stapleton Parker; a brother, Gary Curtis Stapleton; nephews, Beau Allan Stapleton and Charlie Bill Stapleton; great nephews, Andrew Fuglar and Christopher Fuglar; brothers-in-law, Wade Purvis, Raymond Purvis and Jim Smitherman. Survivors include her husband, Melvin Purvis of Jonesville; sisters, Gladys Elliott and husband Grover Wayne of Jonesville and Nina Terral and husband George of Gautier, MS; brothers, Mac Stapleton and wife D’Juana and Dub Stapleton and wife Glenda, all of Jena; special nephew, Curtis Jones; special great niece, Alexis Jones of Youngsville; sisters-in-law, Lola Purvis, Sharon Smitherman, Kay Purvis, and Linda Stapleton; brother-in-law, Maxie Parker of Jena; aunt, Doris Bell and husband Orville of Jena; uncle, Johnny “Sonny” Stapleton and wife Hazel of Arp, TX; 17 nieces and nephews, 44 great nieces and nephews; two great great nephews, and one great great niece. Pallbearers were Nephews, Gary Jack Stapleton, Curt Stapleton, Wayne Elliott, Chad Stapleton, Jamie Parker, Will Stapleton, Luke Stapleton, Zac Stapleton, Wade Purvis, Van Atkins, and Marty Purvis.
