David Alcie “Coley” Crooks, 91, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at his residence. He was born July 23, 1922 in Archie to the union of Elias and Ellen Reeves Crooks. He was the youngest of ten children that all preceded him in death. Coley, as he was best known, was an oilfield worker in his younger years and was employed by the State of Louisiana, where he retired at the age of 68. He was then elected as Police Juror for Ward Six and served four consecutive terms. He loved life and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and tending to his cattle, but most of all his family. Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Jimmy Keene officiating. Interment immediately followed at Woodland Cemetery east of Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. Mr. Coley was laid to rest along side his wife, Mary Lee Andrews Crooks. Survivors include his son, Mike Crooks and wife Gail; granddaughters, Kim and Shelly, along with their husbands, Brad O’Quinn and Lesley King; and three great grandsons, Ty Cooper, Alex King and Brody King. Pallbearers were Buster Breithaupt, Lloyd Breithaupt, Steve Andrews, Keith Andrews, Muchie Toler and Kaylon Randall. Honorary pallbearers were his great grandsons – Ty Cooper, Alex King, and Brody King.
