Robert “Bob” Montgomery Butler, 82, of Jena, was received into Heaven on Friday, August 22, 2014. He was born Friday, March 25, 1932 in Jena to the union of his parents, Thomas Sim Butler and Hazel Montgomery Butler.
Bob owned and operated the first real estate business in Jena and took over the Butler Insurance Company from his parents, continuing in business for a total of 74 years. He was a member of the Jena Kiwanis Club for over 40 years and served as Church Trustees Chairman and member of Nolley Memorial Methodist Church for many years. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, August 31, at Nolley United Methodist Church with Rev. Daniel Hixon officiating. Interment will follow in the Nolley Memorial Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Katherine “Kaki” McKelvey.
Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Hedy Weatherly Butler of Jena; one daughter, Tracy Butler Oberste of Little Rock, AR; two step-daughters, Tyra H. Rabalais of Pineville and Kecia H. Nugent of Bentley; one sister, JoAnn Alsup of Placerville, CA; three granddaughters, Samantha Nugent, Natalie Rabalais and Jill Rabalais; and one great grandson, Drake. Pallbearers will be Walter E. Dorroh, Jr., Kenneth McCartney, Dr. Robert Kendrick, Hank Cooksey, Dr. Mark Bowen, John Buckhalter, and the Choir of Nolley Memorial Methodist Church
