Hilda Pauline Collins

Hilda Pauline Collins,73, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, February 22, 2016, at her residence. She was born January 2, 1943 in Lake Charles. Hilda was a store manager. Graveside services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24, in Hurricane Creek Cemetery with Rev. Tommie Haley officiating. Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton Roscoe Autry and Vivian Alene Foster Rachal; step-father, Herbert Lee Rachal; daughter, Teresa Ann Ford; and son, Joe Clint Collins. Survivors include one son, James Capps and wife Ilene; sisters, JoAnn Chladek of Jena, and Velma Rachal of Hollow Rock, TN; grandson, Jeremy Capps and wife April Dawn; and great grandchildren, Isis Ilene Capps, Clint Louis Capps, and Marilyn Isabelle “Bella” Capps. Pallbearers were Thomas Morgan, Robert Roberts, Joseph Chladek, Frankie Morris, and Rick McGuffee.

Donny Ray Smith, Sr.

Donny Ray “Don” Smith, Sr., 73, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at his residence in the Midway Community following a brief battle with cancer. He was born October 16, 1942 in Los Angeles, California, to the union of his parents, William Efton and Grace Cornell Smith. Smith served the Town of Jena as Fire Chief from 1980 until his retirement two years ago. During his tenure, the Jena Fire Department witnessed vast improvements, including building the new fire station on West Bradford Street in Jena, as well as sub-stations in Midway and in north Jena. In 1996, Smith was elected as the Justice of the Peace for District 4, and was last re-elected in 2014 for a six year term as JP for the district, which includes all of Police Jury Districts 6 and 10, and Precinct 1 of District 5. With Smith only serving one year of the new term, a special election will be called in the fall of this year to fill the vacancy.

Thomas Clearance Smith

Thomas Clearance “TC” “Top Cat” Smith, 71, of Erath, and a native of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, February 23, 2016, at Abbeville General Hospital in Abbeville. He was born April 24, 1944 in Jena. Mr. Smith was a retired truck driver for Texaco Petroleum. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart with Rev. Steve Cripps officiating. Interment followed under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his mother, Valerie Deville, and father, Oscar Smith. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Willie A. Pritchard Smith of Erath; two daughters, Karen Veazey of Erath and Mylissa and husband Richard Delcambre, Jr.

Audley Mary Ann Smith

Audley Mary Ann Smith, 74, of Clayton, passed from this life on Saturday, February 27, 2016, at her residence. She was born Tuesday, April 1, 1941 in Jena to the union of her parents, Clark Ezell and Valerie Deville Smith. Miss Mary Ann worked for many years at U-Pack in Ferriday and M & M grocery store in Clayton. She owned and operated Smith’s Lounge in Clayton for many years. She was known for her coconut cake and sweet potato pies. She enjoyed working at the voter polls during every election. She loved her family, friends, and community. Services were at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 29, at Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday with the Revs. Josh Morea and Curtis Smith officiating. Interment followed at Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Ferriday. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny Smith; and brother, Tommy Smith.

Gayle Meredith

Gayle Perot Meredith, 62, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, February 22, 2016, at the Grace Home in Alexandria. Gayle was owner and manager of Alkie’s in Olla. Services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 26, at Olla Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Elsie Ray Johnson and Jonathan Crist officiating. Interment followed at Perot Family Cemetery near Grayson, under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her father, Lee Roy Perot; step-mother, Iva Ruth Perot; and sisters, Barbara Hunt, Phyllis Stowe and Peggy Cockerham.

Linda June Coleman

Linda June Horn Coleman, 74, of Jena, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in Alexandria. She was born on Monday March 31, 1941 in Owensboro, Kentucky to the union of Junius and James (Roberts) Horn. Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 27, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Rev. Jimmy Keene officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery of Jena under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren D. Coleman, Sr.: her parents; two sisters, Maxine Kerr and Betty Walker; and three brothers, Eugene Horn, Harold Horn, and Louis Horn.
