Ellis Earl Phillips Dollie Mae Phillips

Ellis Earl Phillips, 84, of Olla, departed his loving family on Wednesday, May 4, 2016, to await his beloved wife of 69 years. Dollie Mae Plunkett Phillips, 82, of Olla, met up with her husband on Sunday, May 8, 2016, and they entered eternity together. They were united in marriage in Richland Parish on February 26, 1949, and have four children who loved them very much. Ellis loved talking on shortwave radios, fishing, duck hunting and the collection of many various metals. Dollie loved sewing, collecting pictures of her loving family and spending time with and caring for her husband. She joined her husband on many of his wild adventures. She cherished her children and all of the family. Survivors include their children, Betty Hernandez and husband Jimmy, Annabelle Fishel and husband Gary, all of Yakima, WA, Jimmy Earl Phillips and wife Annie of Grayson, and Linda Nalley and husband Anthony of Mountain Home, AR.

Dona Eloise Smith Cox

Dona Eloise Smith Cox, 79, a longtime resident of Jena, passed from this life suddenly on Monday, May 16, 2016, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. Eloise was born February 1, 1937, in Center, Texas, to the union of her parents, James C. and Mable Mills Smith. She graduated from Center High School, and earned her BBA in 1959 from Stephen F. Austin State University. She was proud of her Shelby County heritage, and always considered Center, Texas, as her “home”. Eloise married the one true love of her life, James Herbert “Jim” Cox, February 26, 1966, while both worked at Phillips Petroleum in Shreveport. They were married 43 years before his death in 2010. Eloise was an active member of Nolley Memorial United Methodist Church in Jena. She was involved in many groups including the United Methodist Women.

Carl ‘Red’ Posey

Carl Lavern Posey, 86, of Aimwell, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at his residence. He was born August 14, 1929 at Aimwell to the union of his parents, John Dosher and Elzano Ashley Posey. Mr. Posey, known as “Red”, was an avid hunter and fisherman, and worked selling auto parts in various places. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Services were held at 5 p.m., Friday, May 20, at Urania Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Clay Hutto, Daryl Floyd and Russell Lormand officiating. Interment followed in the Harris Chapel Cemetery near Olla under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John Dosher Posey, Jr. and Charles Allen Posey; and a granddaughter, Tiffany White.

Mae Janette Robertson

Mae Janette Robertson, 67, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at her residence. She was born September 30, 1948 in Marked Tree, Arkansas to the union of her parents, J. V. and Maurice Cheatham Powell. Mrs. Robertson loved her grandchildren and was the backbone of the family and a friend to all. She was referred to as “Me-Me” and the one who kept things going. She was a member of Sunny Side Church in Clayton. Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 20, in the Whitehall United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Jerry Sharp, Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the Tidwell Landing Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Faye Rachel. Survivors include her husband, Huey Ben Robertson, Jr.

Sharon Ann Tarver

Sharon Ann Tarver, 68, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, May 16, 2016, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. She was born April 4, 1948 in Jena to the union of her parents, Fred Hamilton and Lois Windham Clark. Sharon was a homemaker. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Denver McBroom officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery of Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Tarver, Sr.; and her parents. Survivors include a daughter, Cathy Overstreet of Sikes; sons, Roy Tarver, Jr. of Madison, AL and John Tarver of Aimwell; brother, Freddie Wayne Clark of Olla; and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Ethan Tarver, Jason Cole, Buckie Overstreet, Jarrod Tarver, Butch Bustin, Foster Franks, Clint Griggs and Lee Crabtree.

Bobbie Ruth Reid

Bobbie Ruth Reid, 58 of Olla, passed from this life on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, in Jena. She was born Monday, January 6, 1958 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi to the union or her parents, Lawrence Overstreet and the late Clara (Yawn) Fagan. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 21, in the Belah Pentecostal Church with Rev. David Hutchinson officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, John D. Fagan; step-father Jay Fagan; and sister, Alice F. Young. Survivors include her daughters, Candle Carr and husband Kenny and Mary Collins and husband Trent; six grandchildren, Dylan Collins, Matelyn Collins, William Johnson, Kenneth Carr, Jr., Kaliegh Carr, and Kadie Carr; five brothers, Buckie Overstreet and wife Pam, Soloman Overstreet, Dale Overstreet, L. A.

Todd E. Windham

Todd Emanuel Windham, 54 of the Belah Community passed from this life on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at his residence. He was born Wednesday, July 5, 1961 in Alexandria, to the union of Emanuel Doyle and Barbara Lea McLendon Windham. Services were held  at 10 a.m., Monday, May 16, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with Rev. Bill Robertson officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena He was preceded in death by his parents and second wife, Pam Chapman Windham. Survivors include his wife Merrick Elizabeth Weston Windham of Trout; three sons, Tyler Drew Windham of Trout, Jared Emanuel Windham and fiance’ Emily Posey of Natchitoches, and Ronald Rex Lofton, Jr.

R. G. Price

R. G. Price, 89, of Sicily Island, passed from this life on Monday, May 9, 2016, in Monroe. He was born December 21, 1926 to the union of his parents, Richard Guy Price, Sr. and Eura Lee Strahan Price. R.G. joined the Marine Corps in 1944 at the age of 17. He was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Pacific Theater. At the end of his tour he attended LSU and Northeast LA University and then he was called back to active duty where he served his country in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he began his career at Concordia Electric Cooperative, which ended in retirement after 36 years. R.G. was also a farmer, cattleman, avid fisherman and highly dedicated hunter. Graveside services were held at 12-noon, Wednesday, May 11, at the Highland Park Cemetery, with Rev. Josh Price officiating, Interment followed under the direction of  oung’s Community Memorial Funeral Home of Winnsboro.

Lonnie V. LaCroix, Jr

Lonnie Valerous LaCroix, Jr., 71 of Pollock, passed from this life on Monday, May 9, 2016. He was born Sunday, June 25, 1944 in Harrisonburg, to the union of Lonnie Valerous LaCroix, Sr. and Mary Olivia Cripps La-Croix. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 12, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. David Coody officiating. Interment followed in the Whatley-LaCroix Cemetery in the Little River community under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.  He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother Ronald LaCroix.

Eugene Martin Young

Eugene Martin Young, 62, of Olla, passed away on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at his residence. He was born Monday, July 20, 1953 in Pineville, to the union of Doc Midas and Clara Bessie Walton Young. Graveside services were held Tuesday May 3, in Crossroads Cemetery , west of Grayson, with the Rev. Tony Smith officiating. Arrangements were under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by wife Sheila Jean Pelligrin Young; his parents; and two sisters, Ramona Sharp and Arvalene McNulty. One brother Frank Enterkin, Jr. Survivors include four sons, Robert Young, Damon Young, Travis Young and Ethon Young; three brothers, Gordon Young, Melvin Young and Rick Young; and two sisters, Martha Ford and Virginia Ford.
