Thaddies Jewel Torrey, 88, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, at Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with the Revs. Todd Tucker and Lance Torrey officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Mamie Torrey; siblings, Levi Torrey, Rudy Torrey, Tena Gardner, Tula Trahan, Tilly Torrey, David Torrey, and Speck Torrey; son, T. J. Torrey, Jr.; and grandson, Clay Boothe.

Teddy M. Sandifer

Teddy Marcum Sandifer 58, of Perry Township, Karns City, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly of natural causes on Saturday morning, December 26, 2015, at his home. He was born November 27, 1957 in Peru, Indiana. Teddy served over eight years with the U.S. Army as a Ranger, with much of his service being in Germany. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant and held many awards, some of which were the Army Achievement Award and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. He retired in December 2013 as Education Co-Ordinator for interns and residents at VAMC-Oakland. He was a member of the DAV. Teddy was Baptist by faith and attended Queenstown United Methodist Church near Karns City, PA. Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 31, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Brandon Poole and Walter Lloyd officiating. Shirley Norris

Shirley Norris, 76, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, January 2, 2016, in Alexandria. She was born August 10, 1939 to the union of her parents, Ernest and Dorothy Hailey Whatley. A native of Nebo, she was very active in many different areas of life, and worked along with her husband in his ministry. She was active in WMU groups and Mission work with churches. Finding time for herself, Shirley worked at Anchor Hocking Glass factory in Houston, Texas and AFCO in Alexandria. She sold Home Interior in the mid 1970’s and 1980’s, and also sold Rainbow Vacuum cleaners for years, in addition to driving a school bus for the LaSalle Parish School board. Shirley loved gospel singing, traveling, flowers and quilting. She was a member of Memory Maker’s Quilting Guild. But most of all, she loved spending time with family. Services will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, January 6, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Gary Norris and Denver McBroom officiating.

Lilys Marilyn “Cy” Francis

Lilys Marilyn “Cy” Francis, 69, of Jena, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 2, 2016, from LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena. She was born on Monday, August 5, 1946 in Archie, to the union of her parents, Joe M. and Lois Lorene Finlay Francis. Cy was a very accomplished musician and had served as pianist for several churches in the area including Nolley Memorial Methodist Church, Temple Baptist Church and Trinity Baptist Church. She was a member of Searcy Baptist Church, and her faith in God was evident in her life every day. Cy worked in the office of Dr. Riaz Chaudhry for more than 25 years, and was dedicated to her work. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, and will be missed by all who loved her. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 4, at Temple Baptist Church in Jena with the Revs. Lane Corley and Johnnie Phillips officiating.

Betty Jo Moreland

Betty Jo Moreland, 70, of Monterey, passed from this life on Monday, December 28, 2015, in Monterey. She was born Friday, March 2, 1945 in Jonesville. She was a resident of Monterey and a faithful member of New Era Baptist Church. Betty Jo loved working in her yard and spending time with her family and grandsons. Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 30, at New Era Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Moore and Dennis Baker officiating. Interment followed in the New Era Baptist Church Cemetery under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her father, O. J. Smith; her mother, Bessie Price Smith; and sister, Virginia Gail White. Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Kent Moreland of Monterey; two daughters, Deidra Shively and husband Cary, and Michelle Burley and husband Theo, Jr., and one son, Stephen Moreland and wife Marcy, all of Monterey; five brothers, A. J.

Maria Parrino Roberts

Maria Parrino Roberts, 83 of Alexandria, passed from this life on Monday, December 28, 2015, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was born on February 11, 1932, to the union of her parents, Peter A. Parrino and Genevieve Malone Parrino, whom had migrated from Italy with their parents to Cheneyville and New Orleans respectively. Maria spent her childhood in Bunkie attending St. Anthony’s Catholic Grade School and spending time in the family Parrino Drug Store. After attending Dominican High School in New Orleans, Maria attended and graduated from Loyola University College of Pharmacy. Over the years Maria filled in for many local pharmacists as a relief pharmacists. Maria was a member of the Alexandria Garden Club for over thirty years and served on the state level as Horticulture Chairman and State Convention Chairman. Maria also served at the district level as Director and Treasurer of the District VIII Flower Show Judges Council.

Dora Ann Evans, 58, of Harrisonburg, passed from this life on Friday, December 25, 2015, in Harrisonburg. She was born on Friday, August 23, 1957 in Jonesville. Services were held at 1 p.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at the chapel of Young’s Funeral Home in Jonesville with Rev. Gary Wagoner officiating. Interment followed at Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Lemuel Miller. Survivors include two daughters, Brandy Corley and husband Kirby of Olla, and Ashley Marceaux and husband Iry of Jonesville; mother, Billie Morehead Miller of Harrisonburg; former husband, Art Evans of Parhams; brother, Bobby Miller of Harrisonburg; grandson, Robert Carl Corley; two granddaughters, Brianna Corley and Madelyn Marceaux; step-grandson, Austin Marceaux; and step-granddaughter, Leila Marceaux. Pallbearers were Iry Marceaux, Kirby Corley, Austin Marceaux, Randy Morehead, Marvin Morehead, and Robert Corley.

Brenda Tullos

Brenda Tullos, 68, passed from this life on Thursday, December 24, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Dec. 28, at First United Pentecostal Church of Harrisonburg, with Pastor Danny Aarons officiating. Interment followed in the Harrisonburg Cemetery under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. She was preceded in death by her parents, J. C. and Faye Aarons; daughter, Priscilla Drane; grandson, Dewayne Tullos; brother, Craig Aarons; and nephew, “Scooter” Aarons. Survivors include her children, Gerald Tullos and wife Evelyn of Summerville; George McClure of Jonesville, and Judson Lee Drane and wife Diana of Pleasant Prairie, WI; siblings, Joseph L.
