Edna Mae Breithaupt

Edna Mae (Brown) Breithaupt, 82, of Jena, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, December 13, 2015 in Jena. She was born Saturday, October 28, 1933 in Wilkinson County, Mississippi to the union of Thomas Jefferson and Hattie Emma (Phipps) Brown. Mrs. Mae, as she was affectionately known by so many, was employed for many years in retail businesses in Jena. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the Jena First Baptist Church with the Revs. Dominick Di- Carlo and Todd Norris officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery, east of Jena, under the directions of Kinner & Stevens Funeral Home. Mrs. Breithaupt was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 24 years, Charlie Willis “C. W.” Breithaupt; a daughter Tonia (Breithaupt) Cockerham; two brothers, T. J. Brown and Norris Brown; and a great-great- grandson, Carson Hall.

Michael Todd Tradewell

Michael Todd Tradewell, 53, of Holden, passed from this life on Thursday, December 10, 2015, in Chuuk, Micionesia, the diving boat Odyssey. He was born November 8, 1962 in Garland, Texas. Mr. Tradewell was a truck driver, a master diver and served in the United States Army for 32 years. He was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Survivors include his parents, Willie Lamar and Beth Elaine Tradewell of Jena; brothers, Robin Lamar Tradewell, John David Ingle and Paul Allen Ingle, all of Jena; and sister, Lisa Kaye Netherland of Jena. Services will be announced at a later date by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. Pallbearers will be Jesse Ingle, Tyler Netherland, Ryan Nix, Guy Tradewell, Thomas Tradewell and Donovan Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be John Hutchinson, Johnny Young, all members of Veterans Honor Guard of Jena, Captain Robert Stutson, Michael Hunter and Bobby Vickers.

Richard Paul Vachula

Richard Paul Vachula, 81, of Trout, passed from this life on Sunday, December 13, 2015, in Jena. He was born on April 1,1934 in Whatley, MA to the union of his parents, Paul Vachula, Jr. and Stella Valeski Vachula. Mr. Vachula was an equipment operator in construction and a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by parents, and son, Micheal Paul Vachula. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burns Vachula of Trout; daughters, Linda Anne Vachula of Trout and Shirley Cox of Minden; and grandchildren, Whitney Whorton, Holly Watson, Megan Cox and Justin Cox. A memorial service will be announced for a later date by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

Clifton Benjamin Paul

Clifton Benjamin Paul, 55, of Jena passed from this life on Friday, December 11, 2015, at his residence in Whitehall. He was born March 3, 1960 in Jena and was employed as a driller in the oilfield industry. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 15, in the Taylor Chapel Cemetery near Summerville under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by his father, Emanuel Benjamin Paul. Survivors include one daughter, Brittany Paul of Jena; one son, Clifton E. Paul and Lacy of Olla; his mother, Edith Pearl Cotton Paul; and three grandchildren, R. D. Gorham, Amelia Goodeux and Anna Belle Paul.

Kathy Anne Yaryan

Kathy Anne Derbonne Yaryan, 65, of Puerto Penasco, Mexico, and a former resident of Jena, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at the Mayo Clinic Sherman House in Phoenix, Arizona. Born Kathy Anne Derbonne, in Alexandria, Louisiana on May 21, 1950 to Arthur E. and Lorena Lawrence Derbonne, Kathy grew up in Alexandria and she graduated from Bolton High School in 1968 where she was a competitive swimmer and gymnast. Kathy was the second child of a family of five children, sisters: Diane Ayers of Ringgold, and Gayle Eskew of Alexandria; and brothers, Arthur Derbonne of Ringgold, and David Derbonne of Natick, MA. Kathy married the love of her life, Van P. Yaryan, on November 21, 1970 at St Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Alexandria, and they were able to celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary four days before she passed.

Joe D. Thornton

Joe D. Thornton, 80, of Urania, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in his home in Urania. He was born September 17, 1935 in Urania to the union of his parents, Willie and Mable Thornton. Services were held at 11 a.m., Friday, Dec. 4, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Columbia with the Revs. Karl Wayne Doughty and Buddy Willis officiating. Interment followed in the Pinehill Cemetery of Urania under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Francille Schultz; brothers, Billy Thornton, Bobby Thornton, and Norman Thornton. Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Carrie Ruth Spence Thornton of Urania; brothers, W. M. Thornton, Buddy Thornton and wife Diana, and Randy Thornton and wife Carolyn; sister-in-law, Judy Merle Thornton; and a host of nieces and nephews, and Carrie’s family. Nephews served as pallbearers.

Iris Evonne Eubanks

Iris Evonne Eubanks, 79, of Urania, passed from this life on Friday, November 27, 2015, at Grace Home in Alexandria. She was born October 25, 1936 in Sikes to the union of her parents, LeRoy and Ola Killens Hatten. Mrs. Eubanks was a homemaker. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 29, in the Urania Pentecostal Church in Urania with the Revs. Clay Hutto and Todd Tucker officiating. Interment followed in the Pinehill Cemetery of Urania under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Nick E. Eubanks; and a sister, Doris Johnson. Survivors include her husband, Jimmy R. Eubanks of Urania; daughters, Vickie E. Neal of Trout and Karla Lee of Urania; sons, Johnny K. Eubanks of Pineville, Larry R.

Edgar Forrest Cook, Sr.

Edgar Forrest Cook, Sr., 90, of Urania, passed from this life on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born July 16, 1925 in Urania to the union of his parents, Hardy Maxwell Cook and Myrtle Lee Cook. Forrest proudly served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He joined the Navy shortly after turning 17 in 1942 and served until December 1945. He was discharged with the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer/Pharmacy Mate, after serving 28 months at sea in the South Pacific. He was the honored veteran at the annual Veterans Day luncheon in Olla on Nov. 11, less than three weeks before his death. Forrest was a Mason for over 50 years and a member of Woodmen of the World. His passions included researching his family’s genealogy and the local history of Urania. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Rev. Warren Maxwell officiating.

Elsie Darlene Lewis

Elsie Darlene Lewis, 70, of Trout, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 4, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was born September 30, 1945 in Jena, to the union of her parents, Anderson and Rose Lewis. Darlene was a LPN for 27 years and loved reading, crocheting, and working in her garden. She was a member of Zenoria Baptist Church in Zenoria. Memorial services were held at 10 a.m., Nov. 10, at the Jena Choctaw Tribal Center with her oldest grandson, Lawrence Chapman, Jr. reading the eulogy and Pastor Rev. Joel Johnson officiating. Graveside services were held at Chalk Hill Cemetery for immediate family only. Survivors include five daughters, Donna Chapman and spouse Lawrence Chapman, Sr. of Jena, Peggy Allein of Jena, Lisa Norris and spouse Kenny of Trout, Theresa Norton and spouse Joe of Lincecum, and Anissia Robertson and spouse Terry of Nebo; one son, Cleve Johnson, Jr.
