Harold Denny Chandler

Harold Denny Chandler, 48, of Jena, was received into Heaven on Monday, February 24, 2014, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born Wednesday, May 12, 1965 in Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia.
Services were held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 27, at the First Baptist Church of Jena with Rev. Dominick Di-Carlo officiating. Denny was laid to rest on Saturday, March 1, in Chickamauga City Cemetery, Chickamauga, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel Chandler. Survivors include his son, Jacob Chandler of Jena; his parents, Julia Davis and Gilbert of Chickamauga, GA; three sisters, Dana Chandler, Shaina Gross and husband Tommy, and Betsy Craig and husband Jeff, all of Chickamauga; and a host of family and friends. Members of Boy Scouts Troop 14 of Jena served as pallbearers.

James Eugene Scogin

James Eugene Scogin, 59, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, February 24, 2014, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania following an extended illness. He was born September 27, 1954 in Cleveland, Texas, to the union of his parents, M. K. Scogin and Nelwyn Joyce Jordan Scogin. James worked as a truck driver for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Jean Simmons; and a brother, Richard Scogin. Survivors include his beloved wife, Martha Scogin of Olla; one daughter, Amanda Sunderland of Olla; one sister, Sheila Scogin of Cleveland, TX; and nine grandchildren, Jacob Sunderland, Kristen Sunderland, Kailey Sunderland, Morgan Scogin, James Scogin, Mitchell Scogin, Brianna Scogin, James Alexander Ian Scogin, and Paul Alexander Donovan Scogin. The Scogin family plans a memorial service to be held at a later date in Cleveland, Texas..

Melvin Burnside, 87, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, January 26, 2014, in Jena. He was born Wednesday, August 18, 1926 in Lillie, LA to the union of Floyd and Irene Bryant Burnside. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, four brothers, and four great-grandchildren. Survivors include two sons, Bobby Burnside and wife Linda and Ronald Burnside, all of Jena; four daughters, Julie Burnside, Mary LaVerne McNeese, both of Downsville, Nena McNeese and husband LaVelle of Courtland, VA, and Jeannie Bishop of Jena; 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Blake “PawPaw” Sims, 77, of Olla, passed from this life on Sunday, February 23, 2014, at University Health Hospital in Shreveport. He was born September 16, 1936 in Olla to the union of his parents, Major and Hallie Sims.
