Carolyn Aymond Norris

Carolyn Aymond Norris, 62, of Marksville, passed from this life on Friday, September 4, 2015, at Colonial Nursing Home in Marksville. She was born January 13, 1953 to the union of her parents, Archange and Corrine Charrier Aymond. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, September 7, at Hessmer Baptist Church in Hessmer with Pastor Nicholas Maricle and Rev. Lloyd LaCombe officiating, respectively. Interment followed in Cushman Cemetery in Marksville under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Marksville. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Luther Aymond and Edral Aymond; and first husband, Dewman Dauzat. Survivors include her husband of 31 years, Melvin Norris of Marksville; three sons, Shane Dauzat of Marksville, Kevin Dauzat and wife Belinda of Jena, and Christopher Norris of Marksville; one daughter, Karen Dauzat Adams and husband Chris of Hessmer; and five grandchildren.

Gary Edward Price

Gary Edward Price, 66, ofBelah, passed from this life on Sunday, August 30, 2015, at his residence. He was born October 7, 1948 in Jena to the union of his parents, Willie Allen and Dottie Beatrice Windham Price. Gary was a driller for Chiles Drilling Company in the oilfield industry, and a veteran of the United States Army. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 2, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Joey Grappe officiating. Interment will follow in the Price-Jones Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Louise Littleton Price of Belah; daughters, Lana Holton and Kelli Ann Pritchard, both of Trout; sons, Gary Micheal Price of Livingston, and Charles King, Jr. of Trout; sister, Olivia June Marcum of Logan, WV; brother, Willie Kendall Price of Zwolle; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Myrtis Lea Masters

Myrtis Lea Masters, 91, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. She was born November 20, 1923 in Walters to the union of her parents, Joseph Theodore and Annie Sanson Chevallier. Mrs. Masters was a homemaker and a member of Prosperity Baptist Church and the Michael Dempsey Eastern Star Lodge 327 of Jena. She loved sewing, quilting and gardening, and worked in the cafeteria at Jena Elementary School for 13 years. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 28, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Oliver Dean and Tommy Sanson officiating. Interment followed in the Woodland Cemetery, east of Jena, under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Lavious Masters.

Doris Davis Laird

Doris Davis Laird, 94, of Olla, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. She was born August 25, 1921 in Olla to the union of her parents, Roland Daniel Davis, Sr. and Charity Shirley Davis. Mrs. Laird loved her God, her family and other people. She was a homemaker who held hobbies of quilting, bowling, and playing Pekeno. She was a member of Standard Baptist Church. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28, from the chapel of Riser Funeral Home in Olla with Rev. Shadd Tibbs officiating. Interment followed in the Olla Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, R. R. “Slick” Laird; siblings, Roland D. Davis, Jr., Charity “Pet” Tisdale, Dewey Laird, Lois McAdams, and Dorothy Jane Allbritton. Survivors include her son, Ronnie Laird, Sr. and wife Hazel of Olla; daughter, Sue Giesecke and husband Dennis of Henderson, TX; grandchildren, Ronnie “Ron” Laird, Jr.

Frank Edward Darsey

Frank Edward Darsey, 89, of Shreveport, passed from this life on Friday, August 21, 2015 in Promise Hospital in Bossier City. He was born February 7, 1926 in Natchez, Mississippi, to J. W. Darsey and Effie Mae Rogers Darsey. Frank grew up in Rayville where he attended and graduated from Rayville High School in 1943. He graduated from Louisiana Tech University with a B.S. degree in forestry. He was drafted by the U.S. Army and served in Europe with the 70th Infantry Division for 18 months. He left the service as Staff Sergeant on May 31, 1946. Frank married Iva Mae “Bobbie” Hudnall Darsey in 1960 and they had 35 wonderful years of marriage before her death in 1995. He was employed by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries as a field biologist and for International Paper Company from 1952 to 1985, serving in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

James “Abe” Lincoln

James Thomas “Abe” Lincoln, 82, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, August 24, 2015. He was born to the union of Harold Thomas and Mary E. (Dabin) Lincoln in Boston Massachusetts on Monday, September 5, 1932. A Memorial Service was held in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home at 10 a.m., Friday, August 28, with Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery with military honors. He was preceded in death by wife of over 40 years Cornelia “Sis” Lincoln; his parents; daughter Ruby Norton; son Tony Long; two brothers Thomas McCarthy, Richard McCarthy, three sisters Carol DiGaetano, Claire Lincoln, and Barbara Lima; a granddaughter Jeanie Long, and one great granddaughter Shelby Vanhoozen.

William Larry Floyd

William Larry Floyd, 66, of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, and a native of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Larry graduated from Jena High School in 1967, attended Louisiana State University, and earned his Doctoral Degree at the Paul M. Hebert Law Center in Baton Rouge. For several years, he served as president of the former Bank of Jena. He was of the Catholic faith. He was preceded in death by his son, William Scott Floyd, and his parents, Dr. William Myrl Floyd and Deana Floyd Williams. Survivors include his daughter, Libby Long and husband John of Decatur, GA; sister, Denelle Glover of Fayetteville, NC; and two grandchildren, Ward Long  and Colette Long of Decatur, GA. Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 29, with a prayer service at noon that day at  Edmond Fahey Funeral Home in Bay St. Louis, MS. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.

Carolyn Clements Brady

Carolyn (Clements) Brady, 81, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 29, 2015. She was born on February 16, 1934 in Vivian, to the union of her parents, Joe and Grace Clements. After graduating from Vivian High School, Carolyn entered Northwestern State University where she met the love of her life, Delton Brady. She graduated with a degree in Business Education. Carolyn and Delton became the parents of three children; Delton, Jr. ”Buster”, Vicky and Lisa. While living in Morgan City, Carolyn began her teaching career. A move to Houston found Carolyn actively supporting her husband’s new career. After a move to Jena in 1968, Carolyn resumed her teaching career at Jena High School. Testimonies from her former students show the positive influence she had on the young people she taught. For example one former student said, “Wow, what a woman.
