Jim A. Howard, Sr.

Jim A. Howard, Sr., 65, of the Midway Community near Jena, passed from this life at 10 p.m., Saturday, January 15, 2016, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born January 21, 1950 in Jena to the union of his parents, Dorothy and Sammual Howard. Jim retired in 2006 as an EMT and Paramedic with the LaSalle Ambulance Service operating from LaSalle General Hospital. He was a member of Trout Creek Baptist Church. Services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, in Good Pine. Interment will follow in the Webster Cemetery of Good Pine. Survivors include one daughter, Arlean Walker; and two sons, Leonard D. Howard and Jim A. Howard, Jr., all of Jena.

Barbara Lea Windham

Barbara Lea McLendon Windham, 84, of Trout, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 15, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born on Friday, July 24, 1931 in Jena to the union of her parents, Robert Elbern and Gertrude Ella Fryday McLendon. Mrs. Windham was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church in the Belah Community, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was the widow of the late Doyle Windham, who served as LaSalle Parish Sheriff from 1976-80. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and a true friend to many in this area. Services were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 17, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Rick Feazell officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah- Fellowship Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years Doyle Windham; her parents; a brother Bobby McLendon, Jr.; and a sister, Joline Allen.

Kenneth Paul Kincaid, Jr.

Kenneth Paul Kincaid, Jr., 54, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at his home following a long battle with End Stage Renal Disease. He was born December 1, 1961 in St. Albans, New York. Mr. Kincaid was employed in the health care field at various hospitals and clinics in Arizona before moving to Jena. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Miranda, and son, Jonathon. Survivors include his parents, Kenneth Kincaid, Sr. and Regina Kincaid; sons, Kenneth Kincaid, III, and Patrick Kincaid; his sister, Regina Marcial and her family; and the Flynn family of Jena.

Richard Paul Vachula

Richard Paul Vachula, 81, of Trout, passed from this life on Sunday, December 13, 2015, in Jena. He was born on April 1, 1934 in Whatley, MA to the union of his parents, Paul Vachula, Jr. and Stella Valeski Vachula. Mr. Vachula was an equipment operator in construction and a veteran of the United States Army. A memorial service will be held this Saturday, Jan. 23, at Midway Baptist Church. Visitation will be between 12- noon and 2 p.m. with a brief service to follow at 2 p.m. Arrangements are under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by parents, and son, Micheal Paul Vachula. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Burns Vachula of Trout; daughters, Linda Anne Vachula of Trout and Shirley Cox and husband Micky of Minden; and grandchildren, Whitney Whorton and husband Lee, Holly Watson and husband Ed, Megan Cox and Justin Cox, and four great-grandchildren.

T. J. Torrey

Thaddies Jewel Torrey, 88, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Thursday, December 31, 2015, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 2, at Wallace Ridge Pentecostal Church of Jonesville with the Revs. Todd Tucker and Lance Torrey officiating. Interment followed in the Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Mamie Torrey; siblings, Levi Torrey, Rudy Torrey, Tena Gardner, Tula Trahan, Tilly Torrey, David Torrey, and Speck Torrey; son, T. J. Torrey, Jr.; and grandson, Clay Boothe.

Teddy M. Sandifer

Teddy Marcum Sandifer 58, of Perry Township, Karns City, Pennsylvania, passed away suddenly of natural causes on Saturday morning, December 26, 2015, at his home. He was born November 27, 1957 in Peru, Indiana. Teddy served over eight years with the U.S. Army as a Ranger, with much of his service being in Germany. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant and held many awards, some of which were the Army Achievement Award and the NCO Professional Development Ribbon. He retired in December 2013 as Education Co-Ordinator for interns and residents at VAMC-Oakland. He was a member of the DAV. Teddy was Baptist by faith and attended Queenstown United Methodist Church near Karns City, PA. Services were held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 31, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Brandon Poole and Walter Lloyd officiating. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lisa Sandifer; paternal grandparents, John N.
