Felton O. McDonald

Felton O. McDonald, 86, of Homer and a former resident of Jena, entered into rest Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at his home surrounded by his loving family following a lengthy illness. He was born October 30, 1926 in Antioch to the union of his parents, Jewell Clayton and Fannie Maude Nichols McDonald. Felton was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific Theatre before being honorably discharged in 1946.

Pergie Brooks Bradford

Pergie Brooks Bradford, 97, of the French Fork community, passed from this life on Friday, October 11, 2013, at the Jena Nursing and Rehab Center in Jena. She was born February 26, 1916 in Alarka Creek near Bryson City, North Carolina, to the union of her parents, James Harrison and Hattie Victoria Barker Brooks. Her early years were spent in the mountains of western North Carolina of which she often recalled fondly.

Arlon E. Lasyone

Arlon E. Lasyone, 93, of Pollock, passed from this life on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. Services celebrating his life will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 18, at the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home in Pineville with Rev. Grady Snider officiating. Interment will follow at Liberty Chapel Cemetery in Williana under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Pineville. He was preceded in death by his wife, “Lucy” Margaret Savoy Lasyone; daughter, Betty Ann Stone; parents, Wickley and Bessie Foster Lasyone; brother, Elmer Lasyone; sisters, Lessie Dickson, Johnnie Bell Lowry and Melba Dubroc. Survivors include his daughters, Lois M. Giles, Barbara Atwell and Stella Recoulley; 12 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. The family asks that visitation be observed from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday, Oct. 18.

Linda Mason Whatley

Linda Mason Whatley, 69, of Jena, passed from this life on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena. She was born October 26, 1943 in Jena to the union of her parents, Orville Jay and Myrtle Williams Randall. Linda was a homemaker. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Clark Palmer officiating. Interment followed in the Randall Cemetery under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Vonda K. Weems. Survivors include her husband, James “Melvin” Whatley of Jena; one son, Richard Terral and wife Angie of Nebo; a sister, Virginia Moore of Tioga; and two granddaughters, Sarah Davis of Nebo, and Brandy Bruce of Ball. Pallbearers were David Moore, Kyle Moore, Johnny Sikes, Paul Smith, and James Francis.

Betty J. Enterkin, 78, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena. She was born April 3, 1935 in Jena to the union of her parents, James Monroe and Clhoe McVay Enterkin. Services were held at 9 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Chaplain Clyde Gammon officiating. Interment followed in the Jena Cemetery near Jena under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. Survivors include one niece, Diane Nugent; and three nephews, Mark Enterkin of Meridian, MS, Buddy Enterkin and Curtis Hudnall.
