Shanna Gay Jacobs Hughes, 47, of Houston, Texas, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 26, 2013, in Tomball, Texas. She was a CNA and a member of the Baptist faith. A memorial service was held at 6 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2013, at the home of Charles and Alice Seaward. She was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon C. Jacobs, and Diane and Powell Boyett; grandparents; sister, Charlotte Jacobs; and nephew, Rowdy Little. Survivors include two daughters, Heather Eubanks and Kristen Jacobs; two sons, James Burwell and Stewart Hughes; two sisters, Holly Lofton and husband Tommy, and Dawn Blackwell and husband Rocky; four half-sisters,
Amanda Wheeler, Jennifer Carter, Stella Newby, and Misty Jacobs; and grandchildren, Kaytlin, Noah, James Dylan and Baby Zane

Kenneth Ray “Katfish” McCartney, 66, of the Trinity Community near Jonesville, passed from this life on Sunday, November 23, 2013, after suffering a heart attack. He was born June 7, 1947 in Trout to the union of his parents, James Nelson McCartney and Frances Elizabeth Hemphill McCartney. Kenneth was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ruby Lois Coon

Ruby Lois Coon, 88, of Jena, passed from this life on Sunday, November 17, 2013, at the LaSalle General Hospital of Jena. She was born June 7, 1925 in Harrisonburg to the union of her parents, James O. Ellard and Tena Ellard Crane. Mrs. Coon will be remembered as being a store clerk for the Ben Franklin store when it was located in Jena. Services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Mike Russell officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Willard L. Coon. Survivors include her daughter, Cherry Barron and husband George “Bubba” of Pollock; son, Johnny Coon of Jena; sisters, Hazel McLendon of Pollock and Eula Lane of Natchez, MS; and grandson, Jeffrey Barron.

Mildred Hughes Olden

Mildred Hughes Olden, 93, of Shreveport and formerly of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, November 19, 2013, in Shreveport. She was born April 23, 1920 in Orange County, Texas, to the union of Silas and Irene Hughes. Mrs. Olden lived in Jena until 2001 when she moved to Shreveport to be closer to her family. She was a devout Christian and a dedicated and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She worked as a seamstress for many years before becoming a bookkeeper for McCartney Oil Company of Jena. She enjoyed gardening. Services were held Thursday, Nov. 21, in the chapel of Centuries Memorial Funeral Home in  Shreveport with Rev. Mike Igo officiating. Annie Ruth “Sookie” Scott, 70, of Jena, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, at her home. She was born October 29, 1943 in Pineville to the union of Tom and Leana White Kittlin. Mrs. Annie was a graduate of Good Pine High School, employed by Louisiana Pacific for five years and by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home for 18 years as a housekeeper.
