Arthur Ates, Jr., 80, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 4, 2015 at his residence in Georgetown. He was born March 5, 1934 in Urania to the union of his parents, Arthur Ates, Sr. and Iva Jameson Ates. Mr. Ates was a handyman that loved to tinker on anything. He worked for Penrod Drilling for 32 years and was an avid racecar fan and loved squirrel hunting, fishing, camping, and traveling. He was a veteran of the
Korean War. Services were held at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 6, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Joel Johnson and Tommy Hollis officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah- Fellowship Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Lillie Mae Ates and Arthur Mae Stamper; and sons-in-law, Justin Cockerham and David Gongre.
