Velma Olive Yule Blasingame

Velma Olive Yule Blasingame, 89, of Jena, was received into Heaven on Thursday, June 19, 2014. She was born Wednesday, November 12, 1924 in LaSalle Parish to the union of James  Wilson and Nancy Leonie Bignar
Yule. Services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 21, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home in Jena with the Revs. William Harvey  Blasingame, Jr. and Mellanie Hulsey officiating. Interment followed in the
Nebo Cemetery at Nebo under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,  William “Windy” Harvey Blasingame, Sr., and two sons, James Carter “Bo” Blasingame
and Don Roy Blasingame. Survivors include one daughter, Harvie L. Blasingame Holtan and husband Roger of Sandy, UT; four  sons, William H. Blasingame, Jr. and wife Glenda of Trout, Travis Yule Blasingame, Micah

Shawna Kay Cockerham

Shawna Kay Cockerham, 43, of Tullos, passed from this life on Sunday, June 8, 2014, in Shreveport. She was born December 15, 1970 in Alexandria to the union of her parents, Huey Paul and Georgia Marie Boyd 
Lizana. Shawna was a homemaker. Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 12, at First Baptist Church in Tullos with Rev. George Treutlein officiating.  Interment followed in the New Union Cemetery, just north of Tullos, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her father. Survivors include her husband, Scott Cockerham; son, Patrick Scott Cockerham; daughter, Hailey Brooke Cockerham; and mother, Marie Boyd Lizana, all of Tullos; and a sister, Kimberly Draughn of Portlavaca, TX. Pallbearers were Shelby Loe, II, Ryan Ethridge, Willie Howell, Jr., Kevin Howell, Joe Todd Cook, and Terry  Lincecum. Honorary pallbearers were Matthew Draughn, Justin Draughn, Bobby Joe LaCroix, and Gage Howell

John Beauford Tims

John Beauford Tims, 67, of Georgetown, passed from this life on Monday, June 9, 2014, at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. John was a veteran of the United States Navy and served two terms as a councilman in Georgetown. He also served as a volunteer fireman for ten years in Georgetown. Services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 12, at Corinth Baptist Church of Winnfield with Rev. Lamar Carpenter officiating. 
Interment followed in the Old Ramah Cemetery of Ashland under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death  by his parents, Ted and Francis Tims; one brother, James R. Tims; and a grandson, Donald Blake. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Vivian Darlene Tims of Georgetown; two daughters, Sandra Tims and Shannon Blake and husband Q. T., all of Georgetown; one son, Sam Tims and wife Shay

Scott Winfield Flower

Scott Winfield Flower, 86, of the Sharptown Community near Jena, passed from this life on Friday, June 6, 2014. He was born on Sunday, February 19, 1928 in Portage, Wisconsin to the union of Frank and Maude Calkins Flower. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Curtis Thornton officiating. Interment followed in the Tidwell Cemetery in the Sharptown Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pamela Johnson; four brothers and three sisters. Survivors include his wife of over 60 years, Ramona Ann Walker Flower of the Sharptown Community; three sons, Dean Flower of Milwaukee, WI, David Flower of Grafton, WI, and Dale Flower of Jena; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Jim Randall, Buddy Dupree, Chevy Thornton, Johnny Wayne Bradford, Lester Francis, and Donny Richardson

Shawna Kay Lizana Cockerham, 43, of Tullos, died unexpectedly around 8 p.m., Sunday night at a hospital  in Shreveport. Shawna was married to Scott Cockerham of Tullos, and was the daughter of Marie Lizana ot Tullos and
the late Huey Lizana. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at press time on Monday but will be announced by Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

Peggy Sue Boyett Vickers

Peggy Sue Boyett Vickers, 48, of Olla, passed from this life on Friday, June 6, 2014, at the Christus Highland Medical Center in Shreveport following a brief illness. She was born August 2, 1965 in Urania to the union of her parents, Quincy and Elvira Boyett. Peggy Sue was a teacher and was truly called into her  profession. She taught children with autism and gave of herself, giving love, devotion and understanding to each and every one of her students. Peggy was a unique lady, she gave continually of herself to all those around her. Her family and her students were the light of her life. She was employed with the LaSalle Parish School System and was a faithful and devoted member of Zion Hill Baptist Church near Olla. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 10, from the sanctuary of Zion Hill Baptist Church near Olla with the Revs. Denver McBroom and LaVurle Shell officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Hill Cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla.
