Glenda Leah Brooks Green

Glenda Leah Brooks Green, 81, of Central, and formerly of Jena, was received into Heaven peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2016, surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on Friday, August 31, 1934 in Rhinehart to the union of her parents, Rev. Kerfoot Graves and Frances Grace Chandler Brooks. Glenda taught at Jena Junior High School from 1980- 2000. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma. During her years of teaching, she touched many lives and loved being a part of so many children’s education. Glenda was a 1952 graduate of Jena High School and Louisiana College in 1956. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jena for many years. She married Herschel on August 15, 1958, and the couple blessed the lives of their three children when they adopted them. She leaves a legacy of Christian love and service with all who knew her. Services were held at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 12, at the First Baptist Church of Jena with the Revs.

Marilyn “Gwen” Bradford

Marilyn “Gwen” Bradford, 53, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, in Alexandria. She was born Thursday, January 10, 1963 in Jonesville to the union of her parents, Reginald Owen Bradford and Ester Chevallier Bradford. She was a resident of Jonesville and a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesville. Gwen loved fishing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, Bryson and Hadlei. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16, at First Baptist Church of Jonesville with Rev. Gary Norris officiating. Interment followed at Woodland Cemetery of Jena, under the direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. Survivors include her son, Michael Crawford; daughter, Hailee Hodges; grandson, Bryson Crawford, and granddaughter, Hadlei Crawford, all of Jonesville; and by a host of cousins. Pallbearers were Dustin Tillman, Mike Bernard, Bill Couvillion, Less McCartney, Justin Hardie, Ted Bradford and Chris Bevill.

Shelton Mitchell, Jr.

Shelton Mitchell, Jr., 84, of Olla, passed away suddenly at 7:36 p.m., on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, at his home in Olla. He was born October 6, 1931 in Caldwell Parish. Shelton was employed with Louisiana Power and Light Company, now Entergy, for 31 years as a service lineman. Shelton served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He received the Airman Achievement Award for Outstanding Airman of the 28th Air Installations Squadron, Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. He was honorably discharged in December 1955. He was a member of the Harmonia Baptist Church in Olla, where he served as a trustee and treasurer for many years. Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, at Harmonia Baptist Church in Olla with Rev. Clarence J. Reese officiating. Interment followed in Oak Forest Cemetery of Olla under direction of King’s Funeral Home. He was preceded in death by his father, Shelton Mitchell, Sr.; and his mother, Juanita Belton McHenry.

Randy Alfred LeGrande

Randy Alfred LeGrande, a native of Jena, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, February 4, 2016. He passed away in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he had resided for several years. Born December 18, 1952 in Jena, Randy was the second of two children born to John “Jack” Alfred LeGrande and Mary Maxine Carrier LeGrande of Jena. Randy was a 1970 graduate of Jena High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University (now ULM) in Monroe. Randy served our country for six years in the Louisiana National Guard. After attending NLU, Randy pursued a career in oilfield chemicals and oilfield safety in various locations in Texas, in the Gulf of Mexico and eventually in Oklahoma City, where most recently he held the position of Regional Manager with Pro-Ject Chemicals. Randy was a devoted son, father, brother and “Pop”. He loved his Lord, good food and his family. Services were held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9 at the chapel of Vondel Smith North Colonial Funeral Home in Oklahoma City, OK.

Flora Mae Parker Goynes

Flora Mae Parker Goynes, 87, of Baton Rouge, and formerly of Jena, went home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 in Baton Rouge. Flora Goynes, also known as Granny, G’maw, Granny Flo and Aunt Flo, was born June 14, 1928 in Leake County, Mississippi. She married Francis Robert Goynes, Sr. on Nov. 22, 1947. He preceded her in death. Flora was retired from Louisiana Midland Railroad in Jena. She was a member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, and a 48- year member of Woodmen Life Chapter No. 1145 of Jena. Services were held at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 8, at Temple Baptist Church in Jena. Entombment followed in the Woodland Cemetery near Jena under direction of Rabenhorst Funeral Home of Baton Rouge. Survivors include her daughter, Roxie F.

OJ William Brown

OJ William Brown, 91, of Trout, passed from this life on Saturday, January 30, 2016, at Christus St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. He was born May 11, 1924 to the union of his parents, Richard and Rowena Estis Brown. Mr. Brown was a logger and heavy equipment operator. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 1, at the New Life United Pentecostal Church of Manifest with the Revs. David Poole and Tony Ewing officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery of Rhinehart under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena. He was preceded in death by parents; a daughter, Linda Ryder; brothers, Darious Brown, Troy Brown, Elbern Brown, Roy Brown, Monroe Brown, Quincy Brown, Elmo Brown and an infant boy, Clifton Brown; sisters, Hettie Smith, Violet Tolbert and an infant girl; and daughter-in-law, Linda Sue Brown. Survivors include his sons, Michael Brown, Sr.

Rev. Walter Gregg Lloyd

Rev. Walter Gregg Lloyd, 88, of Sharptown Community in lower LaSalle Parish, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2016, in Alexandria. He was born Thursday, December 29, 1927 in Creston, LA to the union of his parents, James Gregg and Ora Gurney Lloyd. Brother Lloyd was a Baptist minister and preached the gospel for the past 65 years. He served numerous Baptist churches in this area as pastor for many, many years. One of his latest efforts in the ministry was to help revitalize the Good Pine Baptist Church in Good Pine, where he served as interim pastor for a period of time. Services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 8, in the chapel of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena with the Revs. Huey Tarpley and Brandon Poole officiating. Interment followed in the Tidwell Landing Cemetery in the Sharptown Community under direction of Kinner and Stevens, Inc. of Jena.

Jarmila Caroline Hazmuka

Jarmila Caroline Hazmuka, 68, former 4-H Extention Home Economist in LaSalle Parish, passed from this life on Friday, February 5, 2016. She was born Feb. 3, 1948 to the union of her parents, Henry and Jarmila Mary Stuchlik Hazmuka. Caroline graduated from Buckeye High School and Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She worked as a 4-H Extension Home Economist for many years in Lake Charles and Jena. Along with her many activities, Caroline was a long time member of the Louisiana Czech Heritage Association, Inc., currently serving as President. During the summer, Caroline worked at Camp Grant Walker and was a lifelong member of Kolin Lodge # 260. Services were held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 9, in the chapel of John Kramer and Son Funeral Home in Alexandria with Rev. Tom Jordan officiating. Interment followed in Libuse Czech Cemetery of Libuse under direction of John Kramer and Son Funeral Home of Alexandria.

Lyrron Authur Crawford

Lyrron Authur Crawford, 86, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at the Cornerstone Hospital in West Monroe. He was born Sunday, Oct. 20, 1929 in Green Mountain, IA to the union of his parents, George Bruce and Roxie Boss Crawford. Mr. Crawford was a resident of Jonesville and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in the Sandy Lake Community. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 7, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with the Revs. Craig James and Dennis Baker officiating. Interment followed in Heard Cemetery of Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shelcie Crawford; step-daughter, Sam Liberty; and two brothers, Robert Crawford and Bruce Crawford.
