Charlotte Ann Noland

Charlotte Ann Noland, 72, of Jena, passed from this life on Friday, September 23, 2016, at her home in Jena. She was born September 26, 1943 in Columbia, LA to the union of her parents, Allen Charles and Gracie Poole Halley. Charlotte operated a daycare service from her home in Jena for many years. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 15, at United Baptist Church near Nebo with Rev. Tommy Prince officiating. Visitation will be the morning of the service beginning at 9 a.m. Graveside services will follow that afternoon at 3 p.m. at the Fellowship Baptist Church, west of Columbia, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

Norah D. Coleman

Norah Demaris Coleman, 91, of Jena, passed away on Friday, September 23, 2016, in Jena. She was born Wednesday, November 5, 1924 in Nebo, to the union of her parents, John Wesley and Penta V. Jeter Collins. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, September 25, in the Jena Cemetery with Rev. Dominick DiCarlo officiating. Interment followed under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena. She was preceded in death by her husband, Truman Jay Coleman; her parents; a daughter, Diane Miller Lasyone; brothers, Truman Collins, Baker Collins, Sam Collins and Ruppert Wilson; sisters, Daisy C. Skinner, Carol Collins, Johnnie C. Yeager and Margie C. Walker. Survivors include two sons, John Allen Coleman and wife Griselda McGee and Raymond Jay Coleman and wife Mary Gray; two special nieces, Grace Collins Sullivan and Melissa Walker Roy.

Gloria Jean Lewis

Gloria Jean Lewis, 60, of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. She was born October 13, 1955 in Atmore, Alabama to the union of her parents, Charles and Maudie Tolin Porter. Gloria Jean was employed as a sales associate in retail until her retirement. She enjoyed being momma and grandmother, and loved being surrounded by her family. She was a Baptist by faith. Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Larry Chapman and Johnny Porter officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by parents; husband, William Lewis, Jr; sisters, Barbara Gauthier and Dorene Salter; brother, Robert Brooks; and friend, Billy Ray Honeycutt.

Doris C. Sanders

Doris Cockerham Sanders, 74, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and a native of LaSalle Parish, passed away on September 24, 2016, at her home. She was born on April 4, 1942, in Little Creek to Ray and Era Cockerham in Little Creek. Graveside services were held at 3 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26, in Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Sanders; and a son, Jim Sanders. Survivors include her children, Mike Sanders and wife Deresa and Sue Smith and husband Butch; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Nikki , Michael, Matthew, Mason, Jennifer, Keri and Peyton; two great grandchildren, Lexie and Karmyn; a brother, Ricky Cockerham and wife Cindy of Little Creek. Memorials can be made in Doris’ memory to Southern Pines Animal Shelter, 1901 N. 31st Avenue, Hattiesburg, MS 39401.

Aida Morphis

Aida Morphis, of Jena, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, in the LaSalle Nursing Home of Jena, at age of 87 years, 8 months, and 28 days. She was born December 23, 1928 in Galveston, Texas, to the family of Venancio and Mercedas Torrabla Gonzalez. Mrs. Aida was a member of the Justiss Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served as secretary-treasurer for 35 years. She was employed parttime at Justiss Oil Company in the 1950’s, and worked for 42½-years as a steno-bookkeeper for Jena Auto Company in Jena. Mrs. Aida served with the LaSalle General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary since 2001, and also sang with a group called Women of Faith in 2003. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 23, at Justiss Memorial United Methodist Church in Trout with the Revs. Reid Terry and Amanda Carpenter officiating. Interment followed in the Hawthorne Cemetery in Little Creek under direction of Kinner and Stevens Funeral Home of Jena.

Rev. Ray Jones

Rev. Ray Jones, 89, of Jonesville, passed from this life on Friday, September 23, 2016. He was born January 27, 1927 to the union of his parents, Jessie L. and Florence L. Jones. Rev. Jones, a member of Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church, and World War II Navy veteran, was also an ordained minister/evangelist and preached in many churches in the area. A skilled carpenter he was owner of Jones Construction Co. and built many houses in the surrounding communities. A kind hard working, Christian man that truly loved his wife and family set an example for all to follow. Services were held at 11 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at Sandy Lake Pentecostal Church with the Revs. Joel Ford and Bryan Taylor officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Manifest under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers and two sisters, and one daughter-in-law Jean Jones.

H. M. ‘Skeeter’ Vickers

H. M. “Skeeter” Vickers, 82, of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, September 19, 2016, at the Hardtner Medical Center in Urania. He was born August 5, 1934 in Sikes to the union of his parents, Hugh C. and Blanche Taylor Vickers. Skeeter was a Deacon at Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was retired from the Louisiana Rural Water Association and he loved the outdoors. He enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing. Skeeter also served the Ward 2 area as a member of the LaSalle Parish Police Jury from 1979 to 1987, and served as a member and chairman of Recreation District #22 for many years. Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Shady Grove Baptist Church, west of Olla, with Rev. Jesse Henderson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery under direction of Riser Funeral Home of Olla. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Carter; his parents; brother, Glenn Roy Vickers; and daughter-in-law: Peggy Vickers.

Charles R. Welch

Charles Randall “Randy” Welch, 47, passed from this life on Monday, September 12, 2016, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria. He was born June 25, 1969 in Thibodaux. Randy was employed at U.P.S-Midstream. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for six years and served two tours of combat in Iraq. His love for his children and grandchildren was his greatest joy. Services were held at 5 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 15, in the chapel of Young’s Funeral Home in Ferriday with Fr. Louis Sklar officiating. He was preceded in death by parents, Robert Welch and Nora Tidwell; brothers, Lynn Welch and Joey Welch.

“Coonee” Brazell

Yvonne “Coonee” Brazell, 67, of Trout, passed from this life on Friday, September 16, 2016, at St. Frances Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria. She was born September 22, 1948 in Crowley. Coonee was retired after serving as a Customer Service Representative at Walmart for 18 years. Services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 18, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Carl Gulde officiating. An additional service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, Sept. 19, under direction of Geesey Ferguson Funeral Home in Crowley. Interment followed in the Abshire Cemetery in Crowley. She was preceded in death by her mother, Joy Suire Trahan.

Ruth Vellere Coon

Ruth Vellere Coon, 82, of Nebo, passed from this life on Thursday, September 15, 2016, at the Jena Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jena. She was born March 18, 1934 to the union of her parents, George and Melissa Ainsworth Wilson. Mrs. Coon was a homemaker. Services were held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with Rev. Gary Norris officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Charles “Shorty” C. Coon. Survivors include her son, Dempsy Coon and wife Marie of Simsboro; her daughter, Charisa C. Barrett of Ruston; her brother, W. G. Wilson of Jena; grandchildren, Heath Coon, Heather Coon, Jason Barrett, and Christy Barrett; and nine great-grandchildren.
