Powder Puff Football Game at JHS Thursday

The 2015 JHS Anchor Club invites everyone to attend the annual Powder Puff game held at JHS on Thursday, October 15, at 6:30 p.m. The cost of admission is $5 for those over 5 years old. The concession stand will be open selling a variety of soft drinks, bottled water, hot chocolate, and home made treats. All concession stand items are $1 each.

Jena blows out Vidalia 49-14; sets up big district matchup at Marksville

The Jena Giants traveled to Vidalia to take on the Vikings in another district 3-3A contest this past Friday night. It would also be Vidalia’s homecoming night so there was a packed house on both sides of the stadium. The Giants came into the game as 1 of only 4 teams that remained unbeaten in Class 3A. The Giants were trying to improve to 6-0 for the first time since the 2006 season. The Vikings came in with a 2-3 record and 1-1 district record.

Jena Giants shutout Winnfield 21-0 to improve to 5-0 for first time since 2006

The Jena Giants played the Winnfield Tigers this past Friday for the first time since the 2008 season. In the past this was one of the top high school football rivalries in the central Louisiana area. The two teams would be able to renew the rivalry because Winnfield would be moved into the same district as the Giants.

LaSalle Tigers win big over Lakeview Gators 46-22 in home game Friday

On the first Fall like night of the football season the LaSalle Tigers exploded for 46 points against the Lakeview Gators in front of a packed house. This was the first time in a month that the Tigers didn’t have to travel for a game. The Tigers treated the full stands to 435 yards of offense and a defense that wouldn’t allow a first down until the second quarter.

JHS Alumni Association induct three honorees at annual banquet

The annual Jena High School Alumni Association’s 2015 Homecoming Banquet and Hall of Fame induction ceremony was held on Thursday, September 24, 2015 in the Family Life Center of First Baptist Church in Jena. The 2015 Hall of Fame Inductee was Ralph C. McCrory. Also inducted were Distinguished Graduate Bridget Webster Wade, PHD and Outstanding Educator Mary Kendrick Nicholson.

Jena Giants win district opener 38-10; renews rivalry with Winnfield this week

The Buckeye Panthers have had the Jena Giants number the last three years as the Panthers have won all three district matchups. This year the Panthers came to Guy Campbell Memorial Stadium for homecoming to take on the Giants. The Giants came into the game unbeaten with a 3-0 record and were looking to improve to 4-0 for the first time since the 2006 season. The Panthers were looking to pick up their first win as their young team has started off the year 0-3. This would be the district opener for both teams who were looking to get off to a good start in district with a win.

The Jena Giants

The Jena Giants ready for an offensive play against the Block Bears in Jonesville on Friday. The Giants came away with a 50 to 14 runaway victory over the Bears.
