Velma Brooks Allbritton


Velma Brooks Allbritton, 79, of Tullos, passed from this life on Wednesday, July 21, 2010, at the Golden Age Nursing Center in Jena.

She was born July 26, 1930 in Trout to the union of James and Flora Brooks.

Mrs. Allbritton was an employee of the LaSalle Parish School System for many years. She also worked at Kress and Lerners in Alexandria. She loved cooking, reading, working puzzles and crafts.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, July 23, at the First Baptist Church in Tullos with the Revs. Brian Rankin and Scott Smith officiating.

Interment followed in the New Union Cemetery, just north of Tullos, under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Waymon Allbritton; her parents; five brothers, Eugene Brooks, Willard Brooks, Donald Brooks, Arthur Brooks, and Teddy Brooks; and a sister, Lottie Wright.

Survivors include three daughters, Cindy Cockerham and husband Ricky of Trout, Belinda Hinton and husband Johnny of Urania, and Jennifer Allbritton of Lake Charles; one sister, Patsy Allday of Metairie; two grandchildren, Mistin McGuffee and husband Clay of Harrisonburg, and Colby Thorn of Ruston; great grandchild, Brennan Keen of Harrisonburg; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Clay McGuffee, Twyman Appleby, Drew Appleby, Joshua Brooks, Derrick Brooks, and Brian Brooks.
