Ruby Holder, 81, of Ridgecrest and formerly of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, November 18, 2013, at the Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Ferriday. “Mrs. Ruby” as she was known by her many friends and church people had a life-long ministry of missions and helping people. Her service began at home by being a devoted wife to her husband, Preston Holder, for 67 years; and two sons, Curtiss Holder and Preston “Little Press” Holder, Jr. Her devotion to family took on a new role when circumstances made it necessary to take three grandchildren – Jim, Corey and Cathy – to “raise”. She had a great love for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her love of the Lord was evidenced by her love for family  and for people in need. She ministered to people with physical needs and spiritual needs as a missionary locally and throughout the state and inmany foreign countries. “Mrs. Ruby” and her husband helped organize Mission Houses throughout Central Louisiana. When Rev. Holder was serving as pastor of Pine Grove Baptist Church at Rhinehart, Mrs. Ruby was  instrumental in helping to start the LaSalle Mission House, which was then located on U.S. 84 in west Jena. She has been director of the Delta Storefront Mission at Ferriday for the last ten years and church “mother” since her husband has been pastor of Ridgecrest Baptist Church for the past ten plus years. Services were held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 20, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with the Revs. Craig James, Ralph Webber, and Preston Holder officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Cemetery at Rhinehart under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Ferriday/ Jonesville. Pallbearers were grandsons, Kevin Holder, Cory Holder, Kennith Holder, Chris Holder, Jim Holder, and Christian Holder, with great grandson, Jadden Kennedy, serving as honorary pallbearer.
