The Jena Lady Giants had their district opener at home against the Avoyelles Lady Mustangs. The Lady Giants came in with a record of 10-7 and #27 in unofficial power rankings. The Lady Mustangs had a record of 8-10 and #24 in power rankings.  This was a very important district matchup because both teams were evenly matched and were looking to contend for a district championship
