Shad Donald Proffer, 40, of Pollock, and formerly of Olla, passed from this life on Monday, June 16, 2014, at his residence following a long battle with Type I diabetes. He was born February 24, 1974 in Alexandria to the
union of his parents, Gerald Donald Proffer and Polly Sue Ruddell Proffer. Shad was employed at the time of his death as an oilfield consultant. He was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed  building his own duck calls. He also loved to fish on the creek, and collect guns. He was most proud of being an Eagle Scout in his early life and his parents were so very proud of this accomplishment. His family loved  him and the void left by his vacancy can never be filled. He was preceded in death by his mother, Polly Sue Ruddell Proffer; and his brother, Paul Nichols. Survivors include a daughter, Madison Proffer of Olla; his father, Donald Proffer of Olla; his brother, David Nichols and wife Jenny of Ball; his sister, Donna Kay Hays and husband Stephen of Start; and four nephews, Hunter Hays, Matt Hays, Christopher  Hays, and Dawson Nichols. The family will announce their plans for a memorial service within the next week. Arrangements are being handled by Riser Funeral Home of Columbia/Olla. Planned memorials may  be made to the American Diabetes Association at www.
