Jobless rate continues to climb; employment numbers increase too

Although the unemployment rate in LaSalle Parish continued to climb in June, the number of people employed in the parish showed a significant increase as well. LaSalle’s June jobless rate rose to 7.6 percent, up from 7.4 percent in May. At the same time, the number of people employed in the parish rose by 120, from 6,644 in May to 6,764 in June. LaSalle was not alone in the rise in unemployment rates in June as most every parish in the state saw an increase. Even the statewide jobless rate rose from 6.6 percent in May to 7.0 percent in June.
