Lucas makes history in LaSalle

Katie Lucas made history last Friday when she was administered her oath of office as LaSalle Deputy Registrar of Voters. She is believed to be the first Native American to become a Deputy Registrar of Voters in Louisiana and the United States. Lucas was administered her oath of office by LaSalle Clerk of Court Steve Andrews during a brief ceremony in the Clerk of Court’s office in the LaSalle Parish Courthouse. Lucas began working part-time at the Registrar’s office in April under a program administered by the Intertribal Council (ITC) of Louisiana.
