The Giants opened the much anticipated 1965-66 season with a 71-47 win over Harrisonburg in Jena. The Giants had a 13-20 record the year before under new coach Billy Wayne Fowler with Bobby Day serving as his assistant coach. Several players returned from the previous season led by play maker 5-9 senior Dwain Roark, 6-2 senior Doug Lee, 6-4 junior Max Cary, 6-2 Paul Zoller, a sophomore, and 6-1 leaper Kay Windham, a junior. The Giants came out dressed (including coaches, players, and managers) with gold blazers, black ties with Jena written on them and black pants.
