The LaSalle Parish School Board voted minutes ago (March 13, 6:45 p.m.) to elect Janet Tullos as the new LaSalle Parish School Superintendent.
The Board met in special session to interview three candidates for the position, Tullos, Scott Windham, and Orrin Glen "Slick" Joiner.
Interviews were held from 4-6:30 p.m. followed by a vote of the board for the new superintendent, who will take the place of retiring superintendent Roy Breithaupt who will retire in June.
Tullos won the position by receiving seven votes.
Voting for Tullos were: Ward 1 Member Dawn Stott, Ward 2 Member Jonny Fryar, Ward 3 Member Mapel Book, Ward 4 Member Virgie Wilson, Ward 5 Member D'Juana McCartney, Ward 9 Member Amy Paul, and Ward 10 Member Melvin Worthington.
Windham received three votes from Ward 6 Member Buddy Bethard, Ward 7 Member Justin Reeves, and Ward 8 Member Dolan Pendarvis.
Joiner did not receive any votes.

ABOUT THE NEW SUPERINTENDENT
Tullos graduated from Jena High School in 1985, received her Associate of Science degree in Medical Records from Louisiana Tech in 1987, received her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Tech in 1990, Masters of Arts degree in Educational Leadership from NSU in 1997, and her Plus 30 in Educational Leadership in 2015.
She has certifications in provisional elementary school principal, provisional principal, teacher elementary for grades 1-8, supervisor of student teaching, parish/city school supervisor of instruction, and eligible for parish superintendent or Level 3 certificate.
Janet served as a teacher in the LaSalle School System from August 1990 until October 2006, when she was named Principal of Good Pine Middle School, a position she has held until the present time.
