Garland Twiner, 78, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, March 9, 2017, in Jena. He was born February 26, 1939 in Jena to the union of his parents, Elzie Red and Mildred Taylor Twiner. Garland was an ordained Baptist minister and served as pastor at Selma Baptist Church as well as other churches for 15 years before he retired in 2012. He was an insurance agent in Jena. Garland served his country in the United States Air Force, and was an avid duck hunter and loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Services were held at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 12, in the chapel of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena with the Rev. Joey Paul and Ernest Twiner officiating. Interment followed in the Belah Cemetery in the Belah-Fellowship Community under direction of Hixson Brothers, Inc. of Jena. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie Barnett Twiner, and his parents. Survivors include his son, Ernest Twiner and wife Kim of Eros; daughter, Rachael Stevens and husband Charles of Jena; brother, Willie Joe Twiner of Jena; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Joshua Stevens, Daniel Stevens, Samuel Stevens, David Twiner, James White and Charles Stevens. Honorary pallbearers were Adam Stevens, Bubba Stevens, Brody Stevens, Jimmy Shirley and Marcus Shirley.
