UPDATED: HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFFS

UPDATED APRIL 27, 9:30 AM: Here is the latest news concerning LaSalle Parish's high school baseball/softball teams, all of whom are in the second or third rounds of the LHSAA State Playoffs.

Jena Giants baseball team: The Giants (13) easily defeated Kaplan (20) last night (April 25) 15-0 in five innings in the first round of the playoffs to advance to the Regional Best of 3 Series against North Vermilion (4) this weekend.

The first of the potential three-games will take place Friday, April 28, at 4 p.m. The second game will be Saturday, April 29, at 11 a.m. and the third game (if necessary) will take place that same day at 4 p.m.

If the Giants win this series, they'll play the winner of the Iowa (5) and Iota (12) regional in another Best of 3 Series for the Quarterfinal round of the playoffs. If they win this series, the Giants will play a single-game, semi-final context on Thursday, May 11, at McMurry Park in Sulphur. The Class 3A State Championship Game will take place Saturday, May 13, at McMurry Park in Sulphur as well.

LaSalle Tigers baseball team: The LaSalle Tigers (4) drew a bye for the first round of the LHSAA Class 1A State Playoffs and will play East Iberville (13), who beat White Castle (20) last night 9-3, in the second round or regional playoff game. This regional game will take place Monday, May 1, at 5 PM, in Olla. 

The quarterfinal games must be played by May 5 with the semi-final game taking place on May 11 at McMurry Park in Sulphur. The Class 1A State Championship Game will take place Saturday, May 13, also at McMurry Park.

Jena Lady Giants softball team: The Lady Giants (6) defeated Eunice (27) 15-0 in the first round, then defeated Jewel Sumner (11) 2-1 in the second round or regional game to punch their ticket to the Fast Pitch 56 LHSAA State Softball Tournament this weekend in Sulphur.

They will play Caldwell (3) Friday, April 28, on Field #13 at 12 p.m. in the quarterfinal game (this game will be broadcasted on KJNA FM102.7 radio). If they win, they'll play their semi-final game Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. on Field #16 and then the Class 3A State Championship Game will take place later that same day on Field #17 at 7:30 p.m. The state tournament will take place at Frasch Park in Sulphur, near Lake Charles.

LaSalle Lady Tigers softball team: The top ranked Class 1A softball team in the state, the LaSalle Lady Tigers (1), drew a bye for the first round of the LHSAA Playoffs then easily defeated Block (16) 15-0 in the second round or regional playoff game to punch their ticket to the Fast Pitch 56 LHSAA State Softball Tournament this weekend in Sulphur.

They will play D'Arbonne Woods Charter (8) Thursday, April 27, on Field #13 at 12 p.m. in the quarterfinal game. If they win, they'll play their semi-final game Saturday, April 29, at 9 a.m. on Field #13 and then the Class 1A State Championship Game will take place later that same day on Field #15 at 5 p.m. The state tournament will take place at Frasch Park in Sulphur, near Lake Charles.

According to radio officials in Jena, they will have live coverage of all the action Saturday in Sulphur as the two LaSalle Parish teams advance.
