Jury accepts assessments

Property assessments for year 2017 was presented by LaSalle Assessor Tom Kendrick and accepted by the LaSalle Police Jury during a special meeting held at 10 a.m. last Wednesday morning. Total taxable assessments amount to $78,734,030, with overall total assessment being $100,906,320, including homestead exemption assessments.

The Jury met to serve as a board of review for assessments for all property in the parish as presented by the Assessor.

Kendrick told jurors that only one protest had been received, that being from Aaron’s Sales and Lease of Jena, which contends that leased property should not be assessed and taxed.

The Assessor said Aaron’s has filed suit against the Assessor and Sheriff in every parish where an Aaron’s is located and it had been decided to allow one case to be decided and it would apply to all parishes. Thus, the protest did not require any action on part of the Jury.

A motion was made to approve the assessment rolls for taxable year 2017.

Kendrick said the tax rolls would be finalized within the next few weeks and presented to the sheriff and various towns so tax notices could be prepared and mailed to taxpayers in the parish.
