Sammye Kaye Cooper Callender, 70, of Winnfield, passed from this life on Tuesday, October 10, 2017.

She was born July 11, 1947 in Sicily Island to the union of her parents, John T. Cooper and Mary Blanche Miles Cooper.

Services were held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, in the chapel of Southern Funeral Home in Winnfield with Rev. Dennis Baker officiating

Interment followed in the Urania Cemetery in Urania under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Shawn Simmons; and sister, Shirel McMahan.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Houston Callender, Jr., of Winnfield; daughter, Aislinn Walker of Tunkhannock, PA; step-sons, Houston Callender, III and wife Amber of Winnfield, and James Callender, Sr. and wife Maggie of Olla; daughter-in-law, Margarita Simmons; grandchildren, Christopher “Bug” Walker (Jordan), Ashtin Foy (Koty), Slade Stephens, Natalie Callender, Kaylie Callender, Shawn Kevin Simmons, Sophia Simmons, Isabella Simmons, James “Bubba” Callender, Jr., Christopher Callender, and Freddie Callender; great granddaughter, Kenleigh Seals; and brothers, Clarence Cooper and Alton Cooper.

Pallbearers were Christopher Walker, Koty Foy, Shawn Simmons, Samuel Hoggat, III, Tommy Baker, and Doyle Callender.
