A World War II heroism medal, awarded to a sailor born in Good Pine, was returned to Jena during a special ceremony on Saturday, November 18, 2017, some 72 years after the sailor was declared missing in action.

Todd Creekman, Captain, U.S. Navy (Retired), Executive Director Emeritus, Naval Historical Foundation, delivered the medal along with other medals and insigna to which Navy Ensign Lee Roy McDonnell was entitled, to Jena Mayor LaDawn Edwards during the ceremony.
