An excited Urania Mayor Terri Corley points out the site where Hunt Forest Products will build a $115 million, state-of-the-art lumber mill at Urania. The mill will be constructed on a 125 acre site located adjacent to the Drax Biomass plant (seen at left), which occupies 160 acres at the site of the old Georgia-Pacific plywood plant. The sawmill will lead to 110 direct new jobs when in full operation, plus another 307 indirect jobs. Construction is expected to start in April, and the new mill is expected to be in operation by January 2019. “The forestry industry is what led Henry Hardtner to establish the town of Urania almost 130 years ago, so we’re very pleased to be working with Hunt Forest Products and Tolko to bring LaSalle Lumber Company – a new economic engine – to our community,” Corley said.
