LaSalle Parish Sheriff Scott Franklin addressed members of the LaSalle Parish School Board at their regular March meeting on Monday night of last week regarding active shooter safety.

“For the past ten years that I have been fortunate to serve as Sheriff, the safety of our schools has always been in the forefront of my mind,” he started out. “Before I came into office, a couple of schools had resource officers but about that time the federal funding for that program ran out and the program ended. It would cost about $800,000 a year to put officers in every school in the parish, and my department doesn’t have the funds for this, and I’m sure you don’t either,” Franklin stated
