Officials with Union Pacific Railroad and LA. Department of Transportation and Development did not show up for a special called meeting in Olla last Tuesday night, called to give citizens and town officials the opportunity to ask questions about the proposed closing of a railroad crossing in downtown Olla. At the January meeting of the

Olla Town Council, Mayor Rhonda Elliott announced that UP/DOTD wants to close the railroad crossing on Louisiana Street in downtown Olla – near the Olla Town Hall. Mayor Elliott said Bill Shrewsberry, Rail Safety Engineer with Union Pacific, also informed her that improvements are planned for the approaches to the Cypress Street crossing, all to be done this year.
