Jerry Mayo

Jerry Mayo, 80, of Gray, Texas, and formerly of Jena, passed from this life on Monday, March 26, 2018, in Carthage, Texas. He was born March 14, 1938 in Lake Providence, being one of four children born to Thad and Cora “Coda” Graham Mayo. Jerry was raised and schooled in Jena, and graduated with the class of 1957. After high school, he went to work in the oil field. He met and later married Carolyn Ford in 1977 and together they celebrated 37 years, until she preceded him in death in July 2014. Jerry worked for Hunt Oil Company for 42 years. He was an active member in the Masonic Lodge in Gary, Carthage, Beckville and Timpson and had received his 40-year pin. He was also a member of the Sharon Shriners in Tyler. Jerry worked for the Panola County Sheriff’s Office as the Gary City Marshal for many years and was a member of the Gary Fire Department. Services were held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 30, in the chapel of Hawthorn Funeral Home in Carthage, TX with the Revs. Dale Walker and Rick Linebarger officiating. Interment with Masonic Rites followed in the Gary Cemetery under direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home of Carthage. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and a sister, Thadean Floyd. Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Townsend and husband Mickey of Gary; son, Jody Mayo and wife Mercy of Lake Murvaul; daughter, Katti Bird and husband Steven of Gary; sister, Lila Sue McAdams of Poplarville, MS; brother, Chris Mayo and wife Connie of Jena; step-son, Wesley Coleman and wife Brenda of Long Branch; grandchildren, Brandy Gragg, Joshua Keen, Kasey Townsend, Katrina Myron, Steven Graves, David Graves, Jerry Graves, Cody Mayo, Kristina Mayo, Channa Drane, Katalynn Bird, and Delane Bird; 17 great grandchildren and four great, great grandchildren, numerous other relatives and a host of friends
