History was made on May 11, 2018. For the first time in Harrisonburg High School’s baseball history, the Bulldogs brought home the LHSAA State Title. But it wasn’t done without true Bulldog style – in the last moments of each game. It came down to the wire on Wednesday, May 9th in the State Semi-Finals game with Harrisonburg Bulldogs Baseball taking victory in a dramatic walk-off single by Elijah McCormack on a 0-1 count in the 7th inning that sealed their victory over Summerfield 5-4.

Harrisonburg Bulldogs Varsity fired up the offense in the first inning, when Chad McCarthy’s sac fly scored one run for Harrisonburg Bulldogs. The Bulldogs trailed 4-1 going into the 7th inning when Avery Fuqua got things started by getting on base by a hit by pitch with Smith and Tiffee walking. Adding fuel to the fire, came four of the Bulldogs’ nine hits of the game to come out on top. (Carter, McCarthy, Jacob Roark, and McCormack) McCarthy led with three RBIs, with McCormack and Christian Carter tallying one each.
