Alton L. Nichols, 83, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, July 10, 2018. He was born on May 15, 1935 to the union of his parents, Clarence and Verdia Nichols. Alton graduated from Central High School at Larto in 1954. In 1955, Alton earned a Mortuary of Science diploma from Commonwealth College of Sciences in Houston, TX. That same year he attained the designation of Professional Embalmer and was employed as a Mortician-Funeral Director at Hammer Funeral Home in Lake Charles. After twenty four years at the funeral home, he joined the Calcasieu Parish Assessor’s Office as a deputy tax assessor retiring in 1997. Alton was a 32nd degree Mason, a Shriner and dedicated member of the Rotary Club of Greater Lake Charles. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to cook. Alton married his high school sweetheart, Euna Vee Wiley on August 12, 1955. Their union lasted over 62 years. Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, July 14 at Larto Baptist Church with the Revs. Lloyd Trisler and Kenneth Smith officiating. Interment followed in the Pease Cemetery under direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Alexandria. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, William J. “Nick” Nichols. Survivors include his wife, Euna Vee Nichols; daughter, Cynthia Hoskins (James); granddaughter, Joni Lane (Lee); great grandchildren, Clementine, Joseph and Halee; his beloved Yorkie and faithful companion, Clover; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins
