I recently ran across an article that appeared in this newspaper years ago written by the late L. H. Taylor of Olla. It is about a “square dance to be remembered” held at The Bucksnort in Urania.

In 1897, The Bucksnort, a boarding house and dance hall in Urania, was the scene of a party such as is seldom seen. The writer shared the following story:

“The western part of Catahoula parish (now LaSalle) has always been renowned for its attractive women. Rebecca Pilcher and her three pretty sisters lived up to that enviable reputation.
