Retail sales up for year

Retail sales in LaSalle Parish were up about 8-percent during the first nine months of this year, ending with September. Sales tax figures reflect that retail sales in the parish stood at $168.3 million for the first three quarters of this year compared to $155.7 million for the same period a year earlier.

While retail sales increased by 8 percent parish wide, retail sales in the town of Jena was up about 2-percent and up a whopping 17-percent in the town of Olla.

For the first nine months of 2018, the La- Salle Parish School Board collected $1,682,690.02 in sales taxes, up a total of $125,349.22. A year earlier in 2017, the school board collected $1,557,229.38 on one of its three 1-cent sales tax.
