A massive riot at the LaSalle Correctional Center (LCC) in Urania was brought quickly under control within 30 minutes last Monday, October 15, as more than 150 law enforcement officers responded to the call for assistance.

According to LaSalle Parish Sheriff Scott Franklin, the riot began in one of the dormitories that housed 101 Louisiana Department of Corrections inmates around 5:30 p.m.

“It began with a conflict between inmates and quickly escalated to a full scale riot inside the dorm,” the sheriff said. “The inmates not only attacked one another, they also began to destroy as much as they could inside the dorm. At no time were any of the correctional officers inside the dorm and no one else was in danger during the ordeal.”
