An EF-2 tornado with winds between 111-135 MPH ripped through a portion of La-Salle Parish near Jena during the early morning hours last Thursday, November 1, leaving many without electricity and causing schools to be canceled. According to the National Weather Service, approximately 100 structures were damaged in some capacity and many other vehicles and property suffered damage. Amazingly, not a single person suffered any injury that required medical treatment. “We were extremely blessed,” LaSalle Parish Sheriff and Homeland Security Emergency Preparedness Director Scott Franklin said. “When you look at what these tornadoes did and the number of houses that were struck by fallen trees, it is nothing short of a miracle that no one was hurt.”
