LaSalle schools continue to perform at high levels

Formula for performance scores changed

Had the state used the same formula for determining District and School Performance Scores (DPS/ SPS) as last year, LaSalle Parish would still be an “A” rated district; however, the formula has changed dropping LaSalle’s final grade to a “B.”

Individual school and district performance scores are figured from a variety of testing procedures and other information, such as the LEAP, ACT, and other factors. All of the combined factors are put into formulas to rate each school and ultimately districts to give them their letter grade based on overall performances. The new formula for this year allows the state to manipulate scores for various reasons but in turn has hurt top rated districts such as LaSalle.

As LaSalle Parish School Superintendent Janet Tullos puts it, the state’s ever-changing grading system makes it somewhat confusing for the public to understand.
