Monroe Veterans Home residents enjoy steak meal

The residents of the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home were served a steak dinner by the Northeast Louisiana Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) recently. Chef Mike Williams of Chef Eric Johnson restaurant cooked the steaks. Members of the MOAA help served the steaks and visited with the veterans during the meal.

President A. J. “Skip” Caissie of the Northeast Chapter (MOAA) said, “It was an honor to provide the veterans a steak dinner.” Veterans Home administrator Marquita Mihallak thanked the MOAA for their generosity.

The Veterans Home opened in 1996 after major effort by northeast Louisiana veterans’ organizations. The veterans formed a coalition and after establishing the need for the home in Monroe, lobbied the elected officials for their support. Governor Buddy Roemer approved the project after a briefing by the leaders of the coalition.
