OCC in its 25 th year in LaSalle Parish

Through a shoebox a child’s life can be changed, Frances McDonald explained as the reason why the Operation Christmas Child (OCC) – Samaritan’s Purse program is so important to LaSalle Parish and the world.

Frances and her husband, Tony, have served as coordinators of the OCC program for over 15 years at First Baptist Church in Jena, which serves as a Relay Center to collect shoeboxes in the parish. This year 12 churches, one school and eight individuals contributed shoeboxes totaling 1,498 to ship to the distribution center in Pineville and then out to children across the world.

“Each box is a missionary. We call them Missions in a Box,” Frances said. “Each box touches a child and their family and that’s what it’s about. We can’t go to all these countries as missionaries but the boxes can. And all the boxes are prayed over before they’re sent.”
