Big election year for voters in state

This year, Louisiana voters will go to the polls to elect a large array of officials, from governor and all statewide officials, to legislators, and on down to police jurors.

With qualifying just over five months away – August 6-7-8 – very little movement in any of the races, other than governor, has been noted in the state.

The primary election is just a little over seven months away, falling on Saturday, October 12. A run-off election would follow five weeks later on Saturday, November 16.

Gov. John Bel Edwards, a Democrat who will be seeking his second term this fall, has drawn opposition from two Republicans. U.S. Congressman Ralph Abraham, M.D., of the Fifth Congressional District and Baton Rouge businessman Eddie Rispone, have announced they will seek to be Louisiana’s next governor.
