Former Mayor of Tullos succumbs

Charles Edwin Newsom, 65, of Tullos, passed from this life on Sunday, February 24, 2019, at Hardtner Medical Center in Urania following an extended illness.

He was born January 3, 1954 at Urania to the union of his parents, John Paul Newsom and Cordie V. Allbritton Newsom.

Charles served two terms – from January 2011 through December 2018 – as Mayor of the Town of Tullos. He led the town through some trying periods, but was most proud of having secured the Dollar General store for the town, along with other improvements made in the town during his tenure as Mayor.

He retired as a well pumper with Hunt Petroleum a few years ago. He had a BA degree in Industrial Arts Education and he was an active member of Springhill Baptist Church near Kelly. He was an avid deer hunter.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 27, from the sanctuary of Springhill Baptist Church with Pastor Elvis Price officiating.
