Cleo Nichols

Cleo Nichols, 90, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, April 4, 2019.

He was born January 18, 1929 in Boyce to the union of his parents, William Daniel Nichols and Lillie Coutee Nichols.

Cleo was a member of Jena First Baptist Church, Boyce and Michael Dempsey Masonic Lodges for over 50 years (Past Master); Eastern Star (Past Worthy Patron); Blue Lodge; Scottish Rite; and El Karubah Shrine.

Mr. Nichols worked in the oil field most all his life and retired as Drilling Superintendent from Justiss Oil Company in 1982. He was a Korean War Veteran, serving in the 224th Infantry from 1951 to 1952.

He loved his family, loved to hunt and fish, had an incredible sense of humor and was very loved by anyone who knew him.

Services were held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, at First Baptist Church of Jena with the Revs. Craig James and Dominick DiCarlo officiating.

Interment followed at Campbell Creek Cemetery in Sharp under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Anise Marcell Peck; and his eight brothers and nine sisters.

Those left to cherish in his memory include his wife, Molly Kern of Jena; sons, Joe Phillips and wife Pam and Johnnie Phillips and wife Jane, all of Jena; daughter, Cindy Partin and husband Forrest Johnson of Plano, TX; and stepchildren, Robert “Bob” Kern and wife Karen of Jena, Mary Harris and husband Bob of Santa, CA, Katie Moody and husband Peter of Simi Valley, CA, and Margaret Scott and husband Jamie of Lake Providence.

Pallbearers were Darren Partin, Forrest Johnson, Will Nichols, Ira Preuett, Charles Coates, and Robert Kern.

Honorary pallbearers were Ed Benson, Wyndell Wilson, Maximus Lambright, Eli Preuett, KP Wilson, and Ray Nichols.
