Emmett Ray Book, Sr.

Emmett Ray Book, Sr., 74, of Jonesville passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at his home.

He was born Tuesday, April 11, 1944 in Ferriday to the union of his parents, Walter Edmond Book and Delia Ann Book.

Emmett Ray was a lifelong resident of Jonesville. He retired from the Catahoula Parish Police Jury where he served as secretary-treasurer for over 20 years. He worked for many years at Catahoula Correctional Center as an Administrative Supervisor and continued to work there part-time in transportation when he retired. He was an avid golfer and won the Senior Golf Championship at LaSalle Country Club in 2017.

Services were held at 12-noon Tuesday, April 2, at Larto Baptist Church with the Revs. Kenny Smith and Juan McClure officiating.

Interment followed in the Pease Cemetery near Larto under direction of Young’s Funeral Home of Jonesville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Elmo Paul, Nasif Book, W.A. Book, Laverne Book, and Jimmie Book; four sisters, Ila White, Emma Louise Trisler, Ruthene Wiley and Ruby Lea Wiley; and three nephews, Bobby Wiley, Donnie Wiley and W.J. Book.

Survivors include his son, Emmett Ray Book, Jr. and wife Patricia Darlene Book of Monterey; daughter, Jackie Owen and husband Dustin of Natchez, MS; seven grandchildren, Courtney Mills, Travis Ray Book, Trenton Ford Book, Skylar Grace Owen, Jenneth Lynn Book, Codie Owen and Kalyn Owen; brother-in-law, Junior Trisler; two sisters-in-law, Dora Hamilton Book and Arlene LaPrarie Book; four great-grandchildren and 34 loving nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Buddy Trisler, Bud Book, Kody Book, Travis Book, Trenton Book and Glenn LaPrarie.

Honorary pallbearers were Emmett Ray’s golf buddies from LaSalle Country Club and co-workers at Catahoula Correctional Center.
