Melba Bradford Little

Melba Jane Bradford Little, 81, of Winnfield, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019, at home surrounded by her family.

She was born on May 18, 1937 in Rochelle to the union of her parents, James Ozroe Bradford and Velma Blackshear Bradford.

Mrs. Little was dedicated to her family, friends, and students. She graduated from Georgetown High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree from Louisiana Tech University, and Master’s Degree from Northwestern State University.

After moving to Winnfield in 1968, she and husband Ray joined First Baptist Church. She taught English at Winnfield Senior High School for 30 years, leading the department to outstanding achievements. Her love of teaching, the knowledge she imparted to her students, and her standard of excellence is her legacy.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Monday, April 22, at Southern Funeral Home Chapel in Winnfield with the Revs. Steven Smithson and John Holland officiating.

Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery near Rhinehart under direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ray Little; and her parents.  

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Chip Little (Susan) and Rob Little (Marianne); grandchildren Sarah Little Nelson (Sam), Thomas Little, Hunter Little, Anna Little, and Eli Little; brothers, Bobby Ray Bradford and Jim Bradford; and sister, Debbie Bradford; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-inlaw.  

Pallbearers were Thomas Little, Hunter Little, Eli Little, Ray Lynn Bradford, Jimmy Lane Bradford, Jason Bradford, Derek Redfearn, and L.C. Barnett.

Honorary pallbearers were A. B. White, Gerald Roy, Tommy Bankston, Hershel Machen, Ken Crawford, Thomas Gresham, and Joe May.
