Another unusual election for editor

In this edition of your parish newspaper, you will find an announcement from my son, Scott Franklin, who is seeking re-election as Sheriff of LaSalle Parish.

For the benefit of my readers and other candidates, I am re-printing my column, which was published the same week Scott first announced for Sheriff some 12 years ago this week. The column explains why the election is unusual and our policies concerning all candidates. Here is what I had to say:

“When I moved to Jena and took over duties as editor of The Jena Times and Olla-Tullos Signal in the fall of 1967, the parish was in the midst of an election for parishwide officials, including sheriff, clerk of court, assessor, coroner and police jurors.

I assumed ownership of the newspaper in January of 1968, and since that time, I have seen nine parishwide elections come and go, and have served hundreds of candidates for various offices during those elections.
