As a part of LaSalle Parish for more than a half-century, the La-Salle Soil and Water Conservation District (LSWCD) wants to remind everyone that each of us has a connection to natural resources.

The National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) is celebrating the 63rd year of Stewardship Week, April 28-May 5, 2019. The 2019 Stewardship Week is themed, “Life in the Soil; Dig Deeper!”

Sammy J. Franklin serves as chairman of the LaSalle SWCD, which includes members, Mike Crooks, vice chairman; Steve Andrews, secretary; Twyman Appleby and Mike McCartney. Cindy Powell serves as district secretary.

The district was formed to assist people in LaSalle Parish by providing maps and related soil data, which can provide information for a variety of land users including homeowners, gardeners, farmers, developers, engineers, community planners, and others.

Soil is an amazing substance. A complex mix of minerals, air, and water, soil also teems with countless microorganisms, and the decaying remains of once-living things. Soil is made of life and soil makes life.
