G. C. Cooper

Garey Clifford “G.C.” Cooper, 87, of Jena, passed from this life on Thursday, April 25, 2019, at the Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria.

He was born July 21, 1931, the son of Robert Cooper and Annie Mackey.

Bro. G. C. accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and united with Trout Creek Baptist Church in Good Pine.

G.C. lived in Jena, from the time he was born until the time of his passing. He was employed with Humphries Motors, where he worked for 45 years and became part of their family.

G.C. wore many hats as a man striving to support his family, supporting the community, and the youth of Jena. He worked from 8-5 at Humphries Motors then headed straight to the ballpark, where he helped coach and umpire ballgames. He helped any child that needed his help with a big Kool-Aid smile.

He also, ushered at Trout Creek for eight years until he couldn’t stand on his feet anymore. He loved baseball and loved the game with his whole heart and he also loved making rugs. He was a father and friend to all!

Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, May 4, at the First Baptist Church in Jena with Rev. Roger Green officiating.

Interment followed in the Webster Cemetery in Good Pine under direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, Bob and Annie; his loving wife, Nellie Cooper; his four sons, Gary Harrison, Zack Cooper, Sylvester Cooper, and Gabriel Cooper; one daughter, Glenda Faye Cooper; his two brothers, Junior and Tommy Wright; and one sister, Emma L. Wright.

G.C. leaves behind four sons, Bobby Cooper, Patrick Cooper, KiKi Cooper, and Chris Savage, all of Jena; one daughter and son-in-law, Pamela and Earnest Holmes of Gainesville, FL; one brother, Henry L. Wright of Marquette, MI; brother-in-law, Herbert Jones, Sr.; one sisterin-law, Addie Heard; one special daughter, Beverly Jones, all of Jena; 82 grands (grand, great grands, great great grands, and great great great grandchildren); and a very very large host of family and friends who all love and miss him dearly!
