Urania’s fire rating increases

The Town of Urania now has an overall fire rating of six after the recent PIAL (Property Insurance Association of Louisiana) inspection of the town’s fire department, though those in the district not within seven road miles from a fire station and within 1,000 feet from a hydrant will remain at their current rating of nine.

The town’s previous intown rating was a five with a nine being out-of-town; however, the PIAL inspection has changed to issuing one overall rating for a town with the exception of the above mentioned requirements. The rating scale is from 1 to 10 with lower being better.

Mayor Terri Corley said Fire Chief William Strain and Secretary Stacie Strain had a meeting with those from PIAL last week regarding the fire rating and were informed the town’s rate increase is a result of the low number of members who have the required amount of training as well as issues with water pressure, which is being addressed.
